Does anyone here entertain several thoughts simultaneously? I have described my mind to others as a 6-burner stove with all the burners engaged. (I refer to NTs as "others") They don't get it. I thought everyone did this until I started asking people about their thought processes. I was stunned. They tend to think of one thing at a time.
I asked a man at church why he liked the praise and worship music sung before the sermon. He said it cleared his mind of his thoughts and left it empty. I was simply horrified, and I asked him why he would even want to do that. I become quite anxious and upset if my mind is active and engaged.

How does that work in your head?

I can have multiple thoughts going, but if I am to concentrate efficiently/effectively I have to focus on one. If I don't focus on one, then it's similar to multitasking when studying for an exam, I will take in some details, but for the most part forget the important things. I think mostly with inner dialogue and words. I never really think in pictures automatically (unless it's a day dream) because my non-verbal skills suck.

I sometimes have multiple thoughts in my head, and when I do, I'm not focusing on any of them, I'm not controlling them, and they often keep me from focusing on what I want to focus on. I try to cope with this by drawing to get the thoughts out of my head.

Yes I often have too many thoughts all at once. But I prefer when I can focus on just one thing!

Yep, it's usually one thought after the other (though I have had layered thoughts) and then I go back to complete my original thought. It doesn't always happen though as another thought sprouts up from that one.

It can get to a point where my thoughts can literally cause me physical pain.

I find that I have an extremely hard time trying to multitask or even think of more than one thing at once, and if I have too many things going at once it just tends to overload me. I would love to learn how to clear my mind and just "not think", but unfortunately, I almost always seem to be thinking of something.

I meant to say that I become anxious and upset when my mind is not active and engaged, which is seldom.
I suppose at my age I have become used to the multiple thoughts racing through my mind. +

i have this, sort-of.
i only have one 'main' thought process, but there are several sub-threads running as well, which take over the main thought if they think of something good or if they turn relevant to the surroundings.
i have even noticed that these 'sub-threads' are able to percieve surroundings by themselves, so i can navigate a car while daydreaming, snapping out of it to just long enough and just in time to say 'turn right here' and then going back into the daydream uniterrupted...
