Just thought I'd pass this along in case it might help someone else...

My dentist recommended a night guard because apparently I was grinding my teeth in my sleep, or some such thing... Anyway I got it a week ago, and it feels amazing when I wear it. It puts slight pressure on my teeth, and skull, and brain, and has a numbing effect, that makes me feel drugged out and sleepy.

I've been a lifelong insomniac (lifetime average of 2 hours sleep per night) - but this past week it's been more like 3 or 4 hours. And the time that I'm awake, I'm only half awake, and really groggy.

Anyway I just wanted to mention that, in case anyone else is desperate enough to give it a try! :)

I suck my thumb in my sleep, wonder if it has the same effect?

I bet it does. I sucked my thumb nonstop until I was 5, and I remember it used to give me the same calming, zoned-out feeling. (And it pushed my teeth forward and gave me an overbite, so it was definitely putting pressure on my teeth and skull!)

I sucked my thumb until I was forcibly stopped at age 7.

Personally I do not like the feel of a night guard and cannot sleep with one in because it keeps my teeth from meeting. I am supposed to wear one at night because I grind my teeth at night, but it never stays in my mouth all that long.
