Yet Another High-Functioning Autistim Blog
I have been meaning to start a diary or something for a while - ever since I started wrapping my head around the HFA thing a year and a half ago really. So, I thought why not just make it an anonymous blog and maybe one or two people might even find odd bits useful or interesting (Stranger things have happened I guess).
So, without further ado, I present the Autistic Bloke blog: http://autisticbloke.blogspot.co.uk/
I started with just a big post about growing up and sort of telling a bit of my story - warts and all. It's a bit heavy going but then, as I said, I wanted it to be as much self-therapy as anything else and I don't ever talk about this stuff really so thought it might help. I tried counselers but that just felt like I was not really making any progress so I packed it in.
Hoping to cover all sorts of stuff and a lot should be a bit lighter than the initial post.
Anyway, I would be very interested to know what people think if they have time to read it (it is a bit long - sorry). Feel free to leave thoughts or suggestions below.
Si

how do you think writing a blog helps you? I am thinking of giving it a go myself but don't really know where to start
Thank you Franknfurter!
I think it helps one organise ones thoughts about a subject or event when it's written down as opposed to simply thought about. There is something just different about the process that sometimes leads you to conclusions or questions you might not have otherwise reached.
It can also simply act as venting if you need to get something off your chest or, in the case of that first post, tell your story in the new light that you now understand it in.
Everyone is different but i think it might help me. I am not totally out of the closet about my ASD - my wife and immediate family know. I tried telling a couple of friends with very mixed results so I am keeping it close to my chest for now since understanding of the condition varies so wildly. Meanwhile, a blog at least allows me to speak openly while maintaining a degree of anonymity.

the autistic blog scene has been calling out for new blood for ages as so many bloggers have gone private or just given up.
why be anonymous though?
am sleep deprived at the moment so have about as much concentration as a rock but will check it out tomorow.
if are interested in exchanging links on blog rolls let us know.

What do you mean by gone private?
This is my blog http://helptheywantmetosocialise.wordpress.com/
It's not just about autism but other conditions I have and whatever thoughts are on my mind.
Still reading through the OP's post. It's really good. I almost want to give them a hug.

So I can discuss extremely personal stuff openly without the anxiety related to people in my life finding out. Not everyone knows I am on the spectrum and for now, because of lack of understanding and stigma, I will keep it that way.
My wife knows most of that story, my mother knows some bits, my therapist heard some bits also. But, I don't know if I have laid the full story out there quite as blunt and honest before so the fact that I am anonymous frees me to do that.
It's quite liberating given how private i have been for most my life about that story. Until very recently, even my wife just knew the story as "had a tough time as a kid. Bit of depression as a teen. Better now."
