Hello All,

I've had problems with digesting milk when I was very young, though I had reintroduced it into my diet and was beginning to get used to its taste more and more. I had been suffering from stomach problems for a long time (my doctor says this is due to my anxiety) and I had been getting migraines the last few months. Well, on a hunch I decided to stop having dairy and I was suprised by how my clarity of thinking and functioning improved (by this, I mean attention span, memory, lack of anxiety and improved awareness of my surroundings).

Then I felt sick again after a bit of a (dairy free) pancake extravagaza on 'Shroves Tuesday' so I wondered if wheat had been a problem too. So since then I have been eating really healthily but avoiding wheat and dairy (as much as I can) until I can see my doctor on Tuesday.

Has anyone else noticed a huge difference in their thinking and functioning after altering their diet?

my sister has the same problem with milk (not all dairy for some reason)...

i notice that when i eat certain foods my brain seems to work differently, like when i drink soda or other caffinated drinks i get head aches and can't focus... i think that is just one of the side effects of caffine, though.

I'm not allergic to dairy per se, but it does seem to promote respritory allergies.

My oldest brother had the same problem when he was younger. Though he seems to have no trouble with milk at all now. So, keep your fingers crossed. In time you may just develop a tolerance.

Or maybe not.

I don't seem to have a problem either with wheat or dairy (but I know that many people with ASDs do). Still, diet is very important. If I don't eat enough, I get cranky - teary, touchy, irritable, tense. I'm much more likely to have that "hazed" feeling and not be able to think straight. Finally, I may simply get physically weak. That can be a problem when my appetite disappears.

I tried to become a vegetarian when I was around 15, and didn't stick to it too long. It just isn't for me. Not eating meat also makes me crazy and slow like this and it isn't nice.
