Random thoughts
I was working on a problem the other day that involved a series of random letters, symbols, and numbers. After working it for a while, I noticed some of the sequences stuck in my head, while others did not.
It got me to thinking about why. Why did some sequences stick and others did not? Of course, I looked into the strings, looking for patterns, relationships, and order. I even decomposed the strings into pieces, recombined them in various ways. Nothing.
Has anyone noticed some sequences of characters/numbers are easier than others to remember?
Learning and predicting sequences is a key function of the brain.
Maybe those sequences are familiar from somewhere else, or follow similar rules to something you've seen before. Do you have some examples of sequences you find easy to remember as opposed to ones you didn't?
