I've submitted for the insurance preauthorization for sex reassignment surgery, but I'm ready to have had it done yesterday. In the past, whenever I've tried to find anyone to console me on stuff, I find that I am inconsolable and that in fact attempts to console me just leave me feeling weird and confused. So it's like I'm going to burrow into my little shell for the duration until something new can come of this, which will take 45 days.

Of course, the insurance company may give preauthorization or they may not. If it's the latter, then I will have the fight of my life on my hands.

That can't be fun. Really, hang in there. Paperwork and people scrutinizing you, and about something so important to you, too. I'd be going bananas.

You can probably console yourself, though? I mean, when I'm upset and anxious and whatnot, I don't go to other people either. Socializing just stresses me out more. I go find a quiet spot and rest, or do something I like to do, to distract myself. Bet you could do that. Very much like a cat... when they are upset, they find a quiet, small spot, and scrunch themselves into it, and tuck their paws under, and bunch up until they feel better.

That's our family cat Charlie!

Thanks all, for this. About the specific issue of waiting, unlike the issue of expanding coverage to those who need it, I think this Japanese phrase fits the situation perfectly:

しょうがない。

I just hope that before surgery I don't have to go to anywhere where they separate you based on your current genital configuration, like a hospital.

Eiik, that wouldn't be fun. If they do, just come here and tell us about it. But you'd think they'd be pretty sensitive to that in these cases, right?

What does the Japanese phrase mean?

It's already happened. Though I was living as a woman and was on female hormones, when I attempted suicide because I felt I couldn't get the surgery, they still placed me on the men's ward, because I hadn't had the surgery. The only sensitivity they showed was giving me my own room instead of having me share one.

Or "It can't be helped."
