Hello all. I am getting ready to send a press release to the media about my website and want to make sure I am not being a liar. I am saying

"I have the only online searchable database of autism service providers currently available."

If anyone knows of something that would make that statement untrue can you please let me know?

I didn't find anything by googling, but I also don't want to send it out only to find out there is already one out there and now they are going to sue me for saying something that wasn't true.

Thanks

By Autism service, do you mean specialists that can diagnose, therapists, charities, social workers, what exactly?

There are probably smaller databases available, more locally, but if yours is global, it's probably the first.

Perhaps it's best not to make that claim, though; there are doctor databases available all over the place. So maybe, explain why your specialized database is particularly useful.

That is an awfully general statement.

If you take the sentence to the letter, it is almost certainly false and you have no way to ever know how. Maybe my next door neighbour has built a searchable database of autism service providers for his personal use and put it online with a password on his personal web server. It is online, it is available (to him) and it is searchable. And you have no way of knowing about it.

If you rephrase it as "I have the only publicly available online searchable database of autism service providers currently", then it is something we can check.

But unfortunately, it is false too. To cite the only one I know, the National Autistic Society has such a database (for UK services). Probably other associations maintain similar databases for other countries. I don't know where you are from and where the services your database list are located but probably you should mention that in your statement. If you limit yourself to services in one country or area it makes it easier to check that you are the only one.

That is what I would wrote too (with the provisions above for public availability). This way you just have to do your research and bee of good faith and nobody can call you a liar.
