I am 21 years old and have recently been diagnosed as having Asperger's syndrome and i want to know everything there is about asperger's because that's just how i am i have to know everything about everything I'm interested in or that affects me

I have been reading this site ever since my mom who is a social worker and works with Autistic people told me that she had always known i have aspergers and convinced me to get diagnosed

Now here's the bit most of you aren't going to like:

I have been racially aware for as long as i can remember and it has always confused me to read that other people who also have asperger's are rarely ever racially aware and are often accepting of foreigners and non whites and third worlders.
My Grandpa is autistic and we are both former British National Party members but we both left after they started to accept Negroes into the party.

For as long as i can remember people of the Third world (non white) have frightened me and i have always been wary of them even when i was four years old i still remember meeting my first black person a little boy at school called Bernard and this wave of sickness and fear washing over me

When me and my mom drive past the central Mosque in Birmingham an uncontrollable rage overcomes my mind and my body and i imagine myself as a night of the crusade torching the place to the ground and killing all the Asian invaders with my broad sword my hatred of the foreigners has got so bad now that me and my parents are moving over to Northern Ireland where my aunty lives so i will never have to see another non white person again because Northern Ireland is 99.1% White and is still in the UK so my parents can work

I haven't posted this to be barraged with responses by Liberals like "We're all the same" or any rubbish like that and I'm not trolling all i want to do is understand if my Asperger's has anything to do with the way i am

I have not heard of someone with such a problem with non white people before, you seem to be actually phobic about non white people, I think its wrong, and that fantasising about killing anyone is quite disturbing, I would not say it is down to autism but more to your upbringing maybe, if your family holds theses same opinions about non white people.

I know you don't want people telling you that we are all human, but we are, what makes you so against non white people?

It doesn't really seem like an AS issue to me....seems like for whatever reason you have a fear of non-white foreigners. Perhaps it has some to do with your upbringing...that is what I'd lean towards thinking but I am no expert.

I don't think Aspergers is linked to racism at all, and like you say, we're more the opposite, we just don't generally see someones 'colour' (I hate that term for anyone who isn't white, because black isn't an actual colour, so I don't why they are or were called 'someone of colour').

It's nothing to do with being 'racially aware', you sound racist, not 'racially aware'.

My dad is very racist though. He calls Middle Eastern Asians the P word all the time, and tells them to go back to their country etc. I hate it when he does it in front of me. It upsets me.

Should you really be using the word "negroe" though on this forum? It's associated with racism.

I think you should try and learn to be more accepting, and see your reasoning for why you don't like non-white people. What is your reasons?

I don't think this is related to AS. I think it is due to your up-bringing.

It's telling you mention your Grandpa also having an aversion toward others.

This is taught in the home, in the family. The same feelings are also taught to
young children here in the U.S., although primarily and most noticeable in the
south and southeast of the country. It happens, and as a child you never question
it; it becomes part of you.

YOU must decide for yourself, if possible, if these people are as human and as
deserving of respect, as you. Think, focus; this won't happen overnight.

It's not easy going against childhood feelings as these may be some of the few
feelings validated by others around you (family), but I don't feel they're worthy
of you.

I believe we all certainly hope you are successful. Please let us know how your
success is proceeding.

I agree with what others are saying about upbringing, but I think Aspieness might contribute to some extent - a fear of the unfamiliar; finding it hard enough to communicate with people 'like us', let alone people so obviously 'different'; a tendancy to live in an 'interior world' rather than the seemingly too complicated reality around us, etc.

It's not a good way to live though - our fears and anxieties shouldn't be allowed to define or confine us: others will rightly challenge us on such things, but on things so obviously askew we need to be challenging ourselves! By the way, in case anyone thinks it, I'm not a liberal!

First, thank you for your honesty. Like others said I don't think aspies are more prone to racism. I myself am not racist and actually, are you going to read my answer if say I am not white? well, I am not
But there may be some relation with black and white thinking. First, your upbringing, then, you see one person that is non-white and associate something bad about them, and suddenly in your mind they are all like that. There is no mid-term or relativism in black and white thinking so...

There is no link at all between Asperger's and your racist outlook. I also want to point out that it is against the site rules to make any racist comments, so while your thread is "permissible" it would not be permissible to say anything offensive about people based upon their race.

Maybe ASDers are more likely to go to extremes of either being really racist or really anti-racist. ASDers are probably more likely to be honest about being racist if they are.

This is the key sentence right here. If you are racist and have Aspergers, like the above said, you're probably more likely to be honest about it.

I've never heard of someone being so racist though and having Aspergers at the same time. I'll stick to my words and say ASD and racism is not linked, only the honesty.

Nope, that needless fears have simply been educated to you by your parents. The reason why some Asperger seem to be less likely racist, compared to people surrounding them, is simply that Asperger have an social disorder. Many are unaware of social habbits that people around them show, and so dont start adapting and copying it, what is an usual behavior for NTs to fit in into an social group, that they want to be part of. While an NT is more likely to adapt an social behavior, that is "normal" for other NTs around his social group, out of the reason that he is unknowingly aware of it and so CAN adapt to it.

But if that behavior is in your family, its far more aware to you, so even with social disorder you needed to be blind and deaf to not be aware of the feelings of your family members, toward that topic, and so you could adapt that behavior as well to fit into that group.

And as an 50% austrian, 25% french, 18,75% romanian, 6,25% russian ethic person with 50% indian/mauritian, 25% french, 18,75% romanian, 6,25% russian ethic cousins... you will have to accept, that I ignore the deed that was given to you by your parents, to dislike if someone tells you, that we are all the same ...

And tell you that we are all the same. :P

I don't think it has anything to do with asperger's except perhaps fear of the unknown. I had an uncle who was like that... whenever a black person would go on the same elevator as him he would freak out and start saying inappropriate things. I believe it was a sort of phobia and mental illness.. not sure which one.

Then again you sound like you're from a historically white place that has had a very quick and shocking change in demography.... so the anxiousness and worrying is probably normal. You can't hate those people for coming where you are and cutting into your resources... they came from desperate places where life was hard. All you can do is hate/blame on the politicians that made it easy for them to come in... they didn't do it to help them... they did it because they needed cheap labor so they can make more money... the fault all lays with your OWN people.

As for being all the same, I admit I am skeptical of that....while if you've met one person of said race you've met one person of said race, I feel like there are still differences not superiority like any being better than the other but there are some differences mostly physical everyone is still human none the less though.
