I would hope society tries to help but I wouldn't hold my breath. Only time anything ever happened for me is when I forced the issue. Plus sometimes their idea of help scares me when they come up with crazy ideas. They never listen you know. :(

I just realized I shouldn't say her name, I think it's against rules, but before they delete this thread, just know she's really nice.

I am not exactly sure what a stereotypical autism person is as we are all as individual as NTs are. The last time I checked, that is why it is called a spectrum. If you can ignore this person that would be best as much help can be obtained at these groups. But on the other hand if you are stressing or this person causes panic attacks that isn't good either. Is this group not moderated? Can you privately speak to the person(s) running it and see if they can help with this individual? I get the feeling s/he is bulling more then just you.

I'm not that advanced with computers either.
I tend to ignore the AS supremists. You'll find supremists in any minority group looked down by society.
When you get worked up by something on WP I find the best thing to do is walk away for a little while. Take time away from thinking about autism.

I have a mood and hormone disorder so getting angry can really switch me into another state, usually depression. Or it can just leave me exhausted so I have to always decide what's worth getting angry over.

If I were as angry as you I'd leave WP for 3 days, and try to focus on video game, a book or some other offline activity that will distract my mind.

Just so dammned annoyed with all the 'people with aspergers do it better :D we'r esuperrior to everyone else cause, cause cause, this....bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla is all I hear....so yeah WTF sorry just still not into this us vs. them retardedness....sorry if that is offensive but i already had one person randomly stop talking to me after reaching out simply because I am not a f***ing aspergers supremist(vicky something ring a bell to anyone? unfortunately lives in my state and has likely taken over all local autism groups and turned them into us vs. them organizations since autistics are so f***ing superior'. And yeah it hurts feel like I cant go to any autism groups in my area without this vicky person trying to paint me as some weird supremist just because I acknowledge autism is a disorder. Though perhaps I am just parnoid since the randomly stopped talking to me after I expressed such ideas...so people, do try to know who you are dealing with...still some extremists out there.

Hi. I just responded to your pm. I told you that I was confused and that I apologize if I offended you. Now,after reading this post it is clear to me that I have offended you, but I am still confused as how.

Sweetleaf; I still think you are a sweet person. I did not back off talking to you for any reason other than I was afraid that you felt I was pushing you by asking if you wanted to go to a support group or the retreat too often.

Sweetleaf , my views on this topic are similar to yours. I also don't have any special talent and am certainly not a computer genius, that could be why. In my view, autism is a disorder, not just a difference and definitely not a gift or the next step in human evolution.

Also, *virtual hug* if you like them.

Why do you have to be a genius? What's wrong with just being you.

Being bright in certain ways can be as much a curse as anything else. I was academically bright but it made me miserable. It does not help that my view points diverge from the mainstream. I seem to have the kind of intelligence that gets me labelled as crazy.

My tutors once told me I spot relationships that others miss and make connections they don't make (or I did in those days) but when other people can't see those connections or relationships they inevitably just think you are insane instead, especially once you get a mental health diagnosis.

It also means I can't work with others as I can't get them to understand me or see those relationships too. On one occasion I even tried giving people an essay that I had written, which I had gotten an A grade for and which my tutor said was beautifully written and very well argued. They read it and still replied with "we don't see how your ideas relate". Um it was explained in the text.

My ability does not mean anything in this world, it just gets dumped in the crazy pile because I don't always share mainstream opinions about things. The more I try to use my ability (especially as I have my own odd way of doing things) the more the world just thinks I am nuts. Ergo I keep my ability to myself these days. I use it in my own personal world to help me manage my health problems for example but I don't try to share it anymore. Better that way.

It will never be of any benefit to me in the real world, unless I turn into a lemming and start going along with things just because that is what mainstream thinking dictates, even if I feel that mainstream thinking is incorrect because they have missed something...

Can't do that though, not being me.
