Does your psychologist have a lot of experience working with clients who are on the spectrum? If not, then you should see a specialist. A specialist would probably be able to do an assessment to see whether or not you are on the spectrum.

I do understand why your psychologist would say that you are gifted instead of being autistic. People with high IQ's have a hard time fitting in. However, there is difference between being gifted and having AS. I have both. My mom is autistic. My dad is gifted. My best friend growing up is gifted but not autistic. People who are gifted don't have nearly as many problems as people who are autistic.

Do you feel that you require accommodations in school (or work, if you're an adult)? If so, I would seek the diagnosis. If not, I would only seek it if you feel like you want clarification.

If it helps you to understand yourself, by all means go for it. If it's used as an excuse, I'd avoid it. The NT world hates excuses, and one has to live in the NT world (unfortunately) if one desires to attain any sort of success. Being in an autistic vacuum is definitely not conducive to success!

Some people with high IQ are NTs and some are aspies, I don't believe there's a correlation. If you want a clue about what's going on in your head then try one or two of the online tests for AS and see what your score is.

I am not an expert at this but since nobody answered you I will give the bare basics.
I means recognizing your difficulties with sensory sensitivities and executive functioning.

It could mean
Hiring an advocate
Seating you in a place with less background noise and no florescent lighting.
Written and verbal instructions not just verbal with more literal language.
Breaking assignments down into many little assignments.
Extra time for tests
Small group or excusing from group activity.
Time outs to recover from overload.

A lot depends on you location, money your school or work has and hopefully your needs.
