Today I accidentally made a bird sound imitating a seagull outside, and realised -when someone pointed it out, bemused- that I haven't vocally stimmed (is it stimming? or just imitation?) in a long time, something that I've both surpressed myself to avoid people thinking I'm weird at University, but also ones that my family stopped me doing- because I was never diagnosed, I guess they just assumed I was making annoying sounds so they got irritated at me for it. I also realised I kind of miss making sounds
Some of mine that I don't do anymore: bird sounds, clicking sounds, bubble sounds by smacking my lips, hollow whistles by breathing in and out, rocking, and people tried to train me out of my constant leg wiggling but its so ingrained in me/I do it so much it didn't really work.
So, what stims (both physical and vocal) have you stopped doing whether out of your own violation or because you were 'trained' to stop?
