I just got this strong feeling of nostalgia - but not just that.
I also seem to feel some sort of regret and sadness(?).

I have no idea where that even came from, no idea why I would feel regret (what about?) and why I would feel sad. In fact, I would have no reason to feel that way, actually, I was feeling really fine until just a few seconds ago and was quite happy the past weeks.

Does anyone know this? I know this question might seem pointless with so little information, but does anyone know why that could have happened from own experience? :?

I had a suspicion, but I really doubt it's right. Currently, I'm slightly stressed (I have to finish some stuff until April 22nd) and in relation to that I'm dealing with an old object, but I seriously doubt that this is the reason why I would feel that way, the feeling of nostalgia is a tad bit different than that of "looking back at something" or "having to do with something old", so it is definitely not related to the old object I'm using at the moment.

I'm really confused about the cause of this, maybe I'm just not identifying the feelings correctly? But then I still wonder why they suddenly hit me out of nowhere. :?

Probably just one of those transient stress-related things. I think we all occasionally become aware of time passing and opportunities being passed up as we make choices about how to spend our time and which activities to pursue. Many autistic people don't like change, and nostalgia is fundamentally a feeling of missing or remembering good things in the past.

Let it pass; it's just one of those things. Even if you made perfect choices, you'd still have to pass up things just because there's not enough time in the world. Those feelings are to be expected, for a species so aware that we are embedded in time.

I guess that sounds plausible in a way. Thanks!

I guess I have no other choice than letting it pass/waiting for it to fade away.

Is the object yours, or did it once belong to someone else? Have you experienced any visual mental images that felt connected with these emotions? I've experienced similar phenomena incurred in the practice of psychometry.

I get that way sometimes.

The object is mine, though it did not trigger the feeling, I have been dealing with it the past three days already and didn't get notalgic about it and when the feeling suddenly hit me, I didn't see any images at all despite being visual thinker for the most part.

It was purely the feeling that I associate with/identify as nostalgia that I felt, that's probably why I'm so confused about it. I can't really make out the source of it and can't categorize it properly. I think what Callista mentioned makes sense, it could be due to the stress I'm having at the moment. :?

Nostalgia is practically an obsession of mine, so much so that it's actually lead to a huge interest in 80s and 90s pop culture, despite the fact that I wasn't around for the 80s, and that I can barely even remember most of the 90s (I was born in 1993, fyi).

You say it's not related to the old object, but what you describe sounds like what happens to me when I deal with old stuff of mine, this overwhelming feeling of sentimentality & saddness comes over me for really no good reason.
It's lame.

I don't know why it happens though.
