I dunno if this is common or not but sometimes I talk to animals or objects even though I know they dont talk back like I will talk to the tv when Im watching it or tell the door to close when I close it and sometimes I will say hi to an animal like a squirrel as it crosses my path!

I do it all the time. I yell at my computer, I talk to my friends' pets, sometimes people think I'm weird for it, but I've seen other people (mainly my dad) do it too. :P

oh yeah, all the time. My favorite is when i lay something on top of something else, and it starts to slide, and I point at it and say "stop!". And I talk to stray animals all the time. I think it's when you hear animals and objects talking back, that you have something to worry about :P

Maybe...Yes.

Honestly a real pet owner doesn't really know their pet unless they are having conversations with it, which it can't actually answer.

I talk to my action figures. Just say silly comments or if they fall over I let my annoyance known directly to them, as if it's their fault they fell.

When I get annoyed at objects in the way or not doing what I want them too (fan facing the wrong way, computer being slow etc) I'll start yelling at them a bit. Sometimes I do talk to my computer as though it's a normal person. I think many times I just speak my thoughts out loud.

My cats actually meow back to me the more I talk to them.

"Hi Lyra!"

"Meow!"

"Are you good?"

"Meeeaahh"

"Yeah? You want some food?"

"Meeeooowwww raaaa--aaa." (she has a weird meow)

"Are you sure?"

I love teasing her.

I really wish my two cats did this.. when I talk to them or even acknowledge their presence they stop meowing and just stare at me, and almost immediately when I look away they start meowing and/or walking towards the laundry, the room where their food is always delivered to. >.>

I talk alot to myself when I'm at home. When I'm alone, that is, but that goes without saying in my case. It helps my memory and organization when I audibly say things like "I have to do the laundry and order more cat food today". But yes, I also shout at my PC and talk to my cats. Coming to think of it, I also talk to spiders, wasps and bess when I catch them indoors to release them outside, and I often curse the pigeons that are crapping all over my terrace balcony.

PS: Call me crazy, but one of my cats can pronounce a few food-related words, and another cat often greets me with something that sounds exactly like the local equivalent of "hello". It might seem a little insane, but if birds can imitate human language, why not cats too? I'm pretty sure that cats are more intelligent than the average parrot, it's just that they have a hard time vocalizing human consonants. My tuxedo cat is exceptionally talented in this area though. But that's not something that I'd tell anyone outside this forum :)

(That's not me in this video).

I do talk to animals but not objects (other than the phone when someone else is on the other end).

I mentally "talk" to my machines at the Factory and in my shop. I like to think they "know" I appreciate their work and care about them.

That sounds silly by the way, but it is what it is.

Haha, I do something like that too! When I got a new computer I told my laptop that I 'was never going to use it again' because it was a POS, but immediately felt bad and apologized and cleaned it etc. Appreciation at its finest.

I say "Oh, hello there" to the cat or dog, when I go out.

ALL the time, especially to animals! I talk not just to my pets or other people's pets, but to wild animals too. I closely follow and feed and keep notes on a colony of waterfowl locally, and since they are resident and not migratory, the same individuals are there all the time and I've formed a relationship with them. I talk to them no differently than to my own cat, and they do actually respond. All intelligent animals have it in them to have an emotional response to a kind, friendly voice -- or indeed angry shouting -- just as they respond to their own language calls and vocalizations. So I chat away even though they don't understand words. They get emotional tone, I think, if they are exposed enough to human vocalization.

I talk to objects when my own clumsiness is not making something work -- I yell to the object "Oh for God's sake cooperate!"

But unlike the case for animals, I realize the object doesn't respond. It's just me making myself feel better.

I've always talked to myself, which isn't normal, but I agree that it's very common to talk to animals. I don't see how you can have a pet (especially a dog or cat) and not talk to it. My cats LOVE me talking to them, and yes, they talk to me. They have their own little language, and they express certain needs with certain types of meows.

When I had pets I used to talk to them.
My father talks to horses all the time when he sees them.
I insult my computer when it is slow

I draw a distinction between talking to animals and talking to objects. I'd generally think of talking to objects as speaking my thoughts out loud (particularly when the thoughts concern that object), and talking to animals as genuine interaction. I know that talking to animals doesn't have the same results as talking to people, but I'd say I definitely get more of a response from animals than furniture or technological appliances. Animals might not be fluent in the same spoken language as you, but I think they understand a lot...

Dogs actually do try to communicate verbally with their owners. They can't form words, but they can vary their inflection to try to convey a message, or use different barking sequences. And of course I talk to my dogs. And other people's dogs when they greet me.

I sometimes yell at the TV watching sports, and driving.
