There are some things that I absolutely must have with me when I go anywhere. It causes me a lot of stress if I don't have them. If I start driving somewhere and I realize that I forgot one I feel an intense compulsion to turn around and get the forgotten item, even if it makes me late to where I'm going. You are probably seeing the theme herewith tools but what is under the surface is that I have a fascination with machined metal. I love the look, feel and textures. What items you guys absolutely have to have? I don't think this fits the definition of OCD but I think it is very common for people on the spectrum to have attachments to objects. If you could show photos, please do. I would like to see.

How do you carry all of those with you? Do you use a bag or do they fit in your pockets?

On the right...is that two pens or a pen and something else?

My husband used to have a slight obsession with leatherman and cases for them.

Most of the things I carry are fairly purposeful.

In my pockets - left pocket: sharpie pen and index card (for writing/communication or just reminder notes for myself - I feel exceptionally anxious if I do not have that); right pocket: phone and keys. Always the same pockets. :)

My purse (which is actually not a purse, but a lunch box, this one: http://planetbox.com/products/messenger-bag) holds my wallet, medicine, ear plugs, nook, and iPad.

I think the things I bring with me all fit under "normal", except perhaps that I bring my iPad to have access to an AAC app.

Whenever at all possibly socially appropriate, I like to hold rocks. But, I never keep them. Just find new ones each time. It makes me feel calm to play with them. :)

I used to carry quite a bit, but not anymore. My mom gives me such a hard time about it -- "Why do you need all that stuff? You look like you're moving." -- that I've backed off a little. The only things that I'm really anxious about not having with me are something to read and something to write on and write with. I get weirded out if I don't have my phone, but I think everyone, Aspie or NT, does that.

You know they may seem like a lot to carry but I'm a pretty big, so they kind of disappear on me. The knife I carry clipped to my right pocket while the Leatherman is clipped to my left pocket. The Swiss Army knife goes inside either my right or left pocket, depending on what else I'm carrying. The Leatherman actually is pretty small as you can see compared to the Swiss Army knife.

The pen is two pieces, cap and body. I make most of my pens two pieces. I often carry fountain pens and I have to make those two pieces to protect the nib. A lot of people like one piece pens so I make those too, with either click or twist mechanisms. But I don't carry them very often.

If I carried a purse, you can bet there would be lunch in it. I like rocks too. I have one that I've had since I was four years old. My favorite is petrified wood. I have a piece of petrified wood that I take everywhere, I even sleep with it. I'll have to take a picture of it.

My EDC items are as follows:

one kodak mini camera (smaller than a lot of cell phones, but crappy video quality),

MP3 player with ear buds,

Olive drab "tactical" headwrap,

one piece of amethyst (because I can't carry the kava root any more. Unfortunately, ancient superstition doesn't work nearly as well as drugs when you need to stay calm in a violent situation)

and (of course) my wallet.

I used to carry 800 mg of ground kava root, some crude home made lock picks and some similar stuff with me at all times, but I had to stop because I'm searched daily and some people think it's suspicious when you walk around with lock picks and gell capsules filled with tan powder. There have been other things (flash drives, nail clippers & such) I've had to go out of my way not to have because of the searches, but those were the major ones.

Get caught around here by the police carrying that large blade and you'll be arrested, I don't care if you like the feeling of machined metal or not, that's a lethal weapon.

The two items that I must carry with me at all times are my knife and my cell phone. I couldn't include my cell phone in the picture since that's what I took the picture with. Very interesting how so many of us carry knives.

I don't carry items with me to feel, my everyday items are normal stuff like my wallet and I may have my car keys and my bus pass and honored Citizen ID card. But the others I carry are video games. I used to carry music with me or a book but what I carry with me in my purse has changed over the years. I also keep a pocket notebook for passwords.

So they don't have a problem with me carrying the pen, but they have a problem with a knife? I could kill someone as easily with the pen as I could with the knife. Humans have been using knives for tens of thousands of years. Your ancestors were chipping away at flint to make a knives before they discovered the wheel. The fact that a society can deny 40,000 years of history and prohibit a tool that made this society possible in the first place is a testament to the state of liberty and freedom in that society. What is the most lethal weapon in any modern society? People.

Wow that knife has seen a lot of use. How long have you had it? I think many of us carry knives because are just such a useful tool. I use my knife every day.
