Hello everyone, I have a question:

What does nonverbal "instincts" mean?
What is the scientific meaning of instincts and why are nonverbal communications "instincts"?

Thanks!

It's supposed to mean the same as nonverbal cues such as unspoken signals or body language. I have this book called Social Intellegence by Daniel Goleman. There's a part in this book that describes a situation involving A group of US military men walking through a village in another country. The village people starting throwing rocks at them so it was clear their presence was not welcome. Then it describes the sergeant tells everyone to kneel down and put their guns down. The people stopped throwing rocks and gathered along the street and let the soldiers pass without conflict. It was pretty cool. I never would have thought of that. I guess it's called an instinct when you just know what to do for some reason.

It's cultural smarts. Very essential if you want to live in this world. Very cool story.

To me it means gut feelings - an intuitive sensing of something. You may not have words for it, but it just doesn't feel right somehow. You've picked up on something at a subconscious level of perception.
