Do any of you really enjoy being in nature and have a sort of childlike wonder about it?

I love nature and being away from the built up areas. I find greenery so relaxing and when I'm in tune, I'm fascinated by the elements and especially flowers. I absolutely love the vibrancy of flowers. In my backyard we have lots of new flowers growing and I constantly look out to them. It relaxes me but also, nature and colours are captivating.

I remember me and my Aspie friend used to regularly take trips to the countryside (the 'South Downs' for anyone who lives in South of England!). We would spend hours wondering around and we would be like children, finding places to hide and roaming through the trees like explorers.

I've never got out of that. Since I was a child I loved making hideouts and being in nature. I don't think it will ever go away. :). Neither will my sense of adventure. I found a baby snail in my kitchen the other day and I felt like a child again; fascinated by it and wanting to learn about how to look after it. I was almost going to look after it until it grew but I let it out into the wild and hoped it would be okay. I used to be like this as a child and when I really get in the moment with nature, I go right back there and its really great. :) Anyone relate? :)

I totally relate to this, yes. I grew up near forestland and was taken for walks there frequently, and it really got into my blood to love natural places. For a while though, I lived in a place so hot that I didn't want to be outdoors much anymore. Then I returned to my same original area and now get out into the forest parkland any time I can. I find it to be therapy, as long as I get a chance to be alone there with my thoughts, and to sit down with the waterbirds there. I find the company of the animals is extremely therapeutic too, in addition to the greenery.

However, the tranquility is getting ruined/tainted for me lately by other regulars who start conversations with me. At first nobody knew me there but now I can't get out of being talked to, and the social contact undoes all the relaxation.

I really love being in nature too. It's probably the best thing about my degree, I get to spend ages birdwatching and identifying insects and such.

I agree with everything that's been said in this thread. For me there's nothing better than escaping the hustle bustle of everyday life by being in a beautiful place away from people. Sometimes I'll imagine I'm in a time in the past before humans spoiled this planet by digging everything up and building houses and roads. Often though this daydream is spoiled by all the litter from lazy humans that seems to be everywhere.

I do relate and based on what I know it is really common to autistics to have this special bond with nature/animals and also to have "childlike behavior"

I can relate to this so well! :)
I live in a village several miles (just under an hour by bike) from the Bowland hills, and like to cycle up there on weekends, lock my bike to something, and walk from there. On weekends me and my family sometimes go on camping trips in the Pennines or Lakeland Mountains (nearby mountain ranges). I will often go walking or cycling through the countryside near my house, or spend evenings outside in my garden watching the sunset. I do have this sense of wonder, I suppose, and find it so relaxing to be on my own (albeit often talking to imaginary friends) outdoors. I often still climb trees or forage for berries. I love the colour of the sky and the detail in the clouds, and the spectacular scenery in the aforementioned mountain ranges (look up "lake district" on Google images and you'll see what I mean!).

Oh I love you for posting this. Yes and I wish I had an aspie friend who I could do this with to. Some times I get this way but I know that it is socially weird if I go over board. But all my friends have commented saying that I am like a kid when we are in the mountains some times!

It is incredible is nature. And so tranquil. It has such a re-balancing effect.

I bought 'country-walking' magazine today for the first time. I'm excited to see what information they include.

And yes! I know so well about the lake-district and would love to visit there sometime as I live in the UK :). I think being in the UK is great; so much greenery and rolling hills. Lots to explore!

p.s. The Walrus, what degree do you do? That must be amazing. :)

I relate to this 100%! Thank you for this post. I often find myself completely amazed and bewildered at the stunning beauty of nature and the world as well. I have a family cottage that I spend loads of time at during the warm seasons taking in the countryside and waterfront views.

As much as I love technology and electronics, I would much rather live off the land in a beautiful, secluded country home!

I love the woods, the sounds the smells its all so soothing.especially when it rains.i go biking in the woods often i would wander more but the woods arent that big and a lot of people go there to drink and burn wires for copper its disgusting (i do scrap but refuse to burn them) so i dont trust leaving my bike there even when locked up.

I also love nature and living things. I could walk in the woods forever. I also like studying birds and insects. I also like the different songs that each of the bird species have. I also like the variety of trees that I see in the forest.

My backyard is wild. I let it get overgrown. The weeds and trees grow tall.
The wilder it gets, the more I love it. It attracts a lot of animals.
Skunks, opossums, squirrels, raccoons, butterflies, bluebirds, hummingbirds, all kinds of little brown birds and stray cats visit.
And it's just a small city lot.

I love nature. I love watching nature programmes. I used to go hiking with my fa in the forests in Slovenia and catch grasshoppers to observe. I miss those times.

I like to approach animals to get close to them and observe them. But most of them run before I can get close enough. It frustrates me.

I'm starting college at a boarding school in August. They have adders in their forests. I'm going to observe the adders.

I used to live in a forest in Idaho and had 4 tree houses, It's was the best place to be because I could get away from the nonsense of all the people around me. Connecting with nature was easy for me and made a lot more sense to me then people.

I love being out in nature. Love hiking - have hiked all over Canada, the US and a bit in Europe. Used to overnight hike when I was younger but now do day hikes.

Love gardening - we have 1.5 acres in the woods where we built a new house a few years ago, it's great.
