Do you have trouble sleeping when you know you have get up early the next morning? Or know you have a busy day the next day? I have that problem especially when people wake me up. Usually I will never get back to sleep for hours.

OMG yes, I have that problem too. Every time I need to get up early, (some appointment, catching a plane etc) I just can't go to sleep. All I do is lie there thinking "x hours left to I have to get up".

I wasn't that way when I was getting up for school though.

Geez I guess I'm not so wired after all YES there are some nights where I can fall off no problem but there's nights where if something is scheduled for the next day I have issues getting to sleep.

Actually, it's happening to me right now :?

It just seems a bit counterproductive being anxious about falling asleep when sleep is what your body REALLY needs.

Yes.

When I have that, no matter how tired I seem to be, I will always lie restless in my bed and keep checking the clock, slowly watching the hours pass while I seemingly subconsciously repeat to my self things like 'You are never going to get to sleep! There's only three hours left!'

"Sleep anxiety", the way the OP described it, is perfectly normal. Anyone can be worried about oversleeping and missing something important the next morning. It's true even when the event is at noon. I know I couldn't sleep the night before flying out for my cruise last year, even though I had 3 alarm clocks in different corners of the room set up to go off simultaneously. Long story short, it's not a disorder; fear of oversleeping is normal.

This happens to me too.

Oddly enough, I haven't *had to* get up for anything for a while (on leave-of-absence from Walmart for a while due to injury) and I've still had a very hard time getting to sleep at a semi-reasonable hour...then I sleep until almost noon. :(

Granted, up until a few days ago, I was finishing my grades (I teach online also) and usually stayed up late to do so...till 3am to meet the final deadline...so maybe I just haven't recovered from that.

For sure, I always seem to fall asleep way too early when I'm relaxed and watching something I like too. I don't think it's too weird, I'm a lot better sleeper now than I have ever been in my life but I guess I don't do to much either. I'm fearing my sleep trouble will return once I actually start getting busy with life.

Yep - but I think that's pretty normal for most people, not just ASD types.

I sleep with earplugs in to minimize any traffic noise or anything keeping me awake. I'll also pop a sleeping pill here and there if I have to.

Absolutely. The worst is when it's a big trip or something; I'll stay up all night being anxious, pack my bags at the last second, then usually only fall asleep once I'm in the vehicle being driven to my destination.

For me it's not anxiety about oversleeping; rather, it's anxiety about not getting ENOUGH sleep and being in meltdown mode the next day.

Yes, I have this problem. I started taking anxiety medications to help with it. Mine happens almost every night. I worry about over sleeping in the morning because I have to be at work by 7am. Sometimes when I'm really stressed I will wake up often during the night and think I'm late for work. It could also just be my OCD.

I have this too. I mostly control my own schedule, but any time I have to get up early, I won't sleep a wink.

I tried a sleeping pill once (on a night when I didn't actually have to get up early, just to see whether it would actually help) and was even wider awake than I would usually be. This was listed among the possible side effects, as was something about being unable to regulate body temperature, which, yep, happened too. So sleeping pills, at least standard over-the-counter ones, are a non-starter for me.

Really annoys me, especially as the first day of any trip - and I do love to travel when I can afford it - is always pretty much wasted with tiredness, which often develops into a migraine by mid-afternoon. And day trips are pretty much out altogether because of it - I'll just be too miserable and tired for them to be worthwhile.
