This is something I started since I was at least 15, so I haven't done this my whole life. It is that I squeak sometimes instead of talking, but only around my mom. My autistic behaviors seem to only come out around her or when I'm by myself. Sometimes when she talks I just squeak in reply instead of saying actual words. This really used to annoy my parents too, but I couldn't stop. I think I did it more several years ago than now. I don't squeak nearly as often. I know this because my parents stopped pointing it out.

I've since learned that the squeaking is a way I express emotions. It's kind of funny too because my mom was starting to figure out what certain squeaks meant. My parents compared me to the main aliens from the movie Galaxy Quest who sounded kind of like that. I always thought it was pretty unusual, but then again a lot of stuff about me is unusual. I tried researching on it online, but couldn't find anything. I'm guessing it relates to autism yes?

I tend to alter my voice to a high pitched cartoonish voice when I'm in a good mood.

I do a lot of squeaking, too.

I thought the squeaking was a Tourette's Syndrome "tic." It's also a "tic" for people on the spectrum? Btw, I tend to grunt sometimes like how I'd imagine Frankenstein would grunt in response to someone's question. Would this grunt be in the same group of noises as the squeak and others? *curious*

squeaks and grunts tics and tocs, all autistic spectrum but if you chose to do it around your mother or alone, it may be a stim..behaviour you do to make yourself feel calmer, better.
whatever the tic, it is good to be aware of them and modify them in public if needed, i have mild tourettes that usually comes out when i am alone.....usually.

No. I believe that you were a mouse in your previous life and this is why you still squeak. Do you have any rodent like features or evidence of perhaps a fossilized tail?

The closest I come to this is that if I am SUDDENLY in GREAT pain, I will take a deep breath with my vocal cords engaged. It neds up making a loud sharp sometimes highpitched sound.

i do some kinda short abrupt hums when i'm thinking on things and am relaxed....

other than that, i immitate the sounds my kitties make when i talk to them lol one of my cats is very talkative and while i have no idea sometimes what i'm saying to her, we'll sit there and exchange sounds for a few minutes.

I don't squeak instead of words, but I often make a similar high pitched sound not on purpose in response to certain situations: dropped something, something surprised me, i tripped, etc. Apparently people find it annoying; i just thought it was a natural reaction to things!

I don't squeak is response to a startle, though. A Startle response is a several times a day occurance and results in a scream or a heavy gasp. Really hard to deal with.

I most certainly squeak instead of using words, although this is usually affectionate and usually around people I know.

I lost the ability to do anything squeaky with my voice many moons ago. I now grunt.

I certainly don't squeak. I cannot even imagine what a human squeak sounds like, tho I bet it sounds pretty silly, to be honest. I just go silent usually if I am feeling some emotion, or I intellectualise it.
