i shut down today, i really couldn't handle everything that was going on, my sisters boyfriend had Overdosed on pills and was laying on our floor (dont worry, hes fine, he just got sick because he took too many pills, he didnt want to go to the hospital), the baby was screaming her head off, my sister was frustrated ( which terrifies me), i was suppose to help cook, (which no one told me how to do) and i needed to get my Thumb checked out because its infected. My sister was just as overwhelmed though, and she shut down too.

all this week my sister has been dumping her emotions on me, which i have no idea what to do with them, its really tough on both of us, i really really dont want to stay with my sister when shes frustrated and overwhelmed, shes fine when theres nothing going on but its so much pressure on her to maintain the house, take care of her baby and help me out too. i want to make it easier for her but its sacrificing myself, im lost! i dont know what else to do!

Hi Zombie,

I'm glad the boyfriend is okay. Everything else could be solved, one way or another. He has to stop with the pills--most definitely.

I know it's lonely sometimes, and you feel you have no one to talk to. I've glad you've found this site. There will be people after me who will offer their insights.

I can understand you're frustrated that your sister is taking everything out on you. My mother used to do the same thing when I was younger. I think you both should just "take a step back" for a little while, just be by yourselves for maybe a few hours or so, if that's possible. If not, I would just emphasize what's required to be done--like homework and taking care of the baby.

How old is the baby? Do you have to cook for the baby? Is there baby food in the house? You really have to make sure the baby is fed, one way or another.

Perhaps, if you're cooking for yourselves, you could boil up some water and put some pasta in it. Or some rice. Pasta is easy. Just put a box of it in a decent-sized pot, and cook it for about 10 minutes. If it's rice, put about 2 cups of it into a saucepan, fill up the saucepan with water, put some salt and perhaps butter for flavor, then put it on high heat so it can boil. After boiling, lower the heat to low heat, put a cover on the saucepan, and let it cook for about 20 minutes. You could also put some hamburger meat into a pot, mix it up with onions and the spices you want, then sauté it until it is cooked. What food do you have available now?

Cooking food will be therapeutic for you, and will somewhat take your mind off of what is troubling you at present.

Above all, make sure the baby is fed and comfortable.

And try not to get upset in front of the baby.

Get extra rest whenever you can/prioritise/listen to a deep relaxation tape/and take some magnesium to help relax the tension in your muscles from being stressed out. When you feel better, brainstorm some solutions and make a plan to change one of the issues stressing you out. One thing at a time.
