It seems that almost every day, someone starts a new thread with the question: Should I get a diagnosis??

I have various thoughts about this:

1) It is very repetitive - same question, same answers - over and over

2) The old saying: turn your shoulds into coulds. You could get a diagnosis, and it's up to you to decide whether to - meantime maybe stop handing the power over to other people! Part of being an adult is making your own decisions, after weighing the evidence for and against.

3) Now there will be posters, I think, who will respond "Oh but my case is different". Yep, we are all different.
But our ASD issues are often remarkably similar.

4) You can bring up any past thread easily by filling in the search box.

5) Am I just being a bit grumpy today or are there others who are finding the repetition a bit annoying?

Yep. You're just being grumpy.
If all they wanted to do was read, they could get a book or find any number of things online.
What they want is to talk about it with actual people.

It's good for the newbies and it's good for the not-so-newbies to think things through from different angles.
If you have finished exploring that topic, you can move on to others.

It's a big forum. If you don't feel you benefit from such threads, skip them and join the ones that interest you.
Politics? Nutrition? Trains? Whatever you like, it's probably here, and there aren't enough hours in the day to waste on the ones you think are worn out.

I think a big part of being on the spectrum is that we don't always understand why other people miss the steps we see so clearly. It can be maddening!
I bet that there are many people who are on the spectrum who do exactly what you suggested (because it is as clear to them to do those steps as it is to you).

A HUGE part of my learning to get along with the NT population is learning to be very patient with them. Sometimes it mentally feels like I am trying to explain something to a child in an adult body.
But on the other hand (stop looking at your hand :-) ) I also realize that when it comes to social things, they are the ones working with a child (me).

I wish I had known about WrongPlanet when I was going through my whole diagnosis. I probably would have been one of those asking the question and I know I would have greatly appreciated everyone's feedback. I am very happy to be a member of this online community now - both being able to ask questions and get feedback, and to give hopefully good feedback to others.

I do understand your question B19. I am reminded of what the first nations people (aboriginals) say - that "it takes a whole village to raise a child".

I think the topic should be pinned to the top

This would be perfect. Then people can easily find it and read old questions and answers and still talk about it. We also have a reference library thread or forum or whatever it's called. It should be there too. That is a very new thing and we should be adding things like that and things like the discussions on Misophonia,

A pinned topic or even a new sub forum would be great. I was actually thinking about this the other day that it might be more helpful for people if there was a sub forum or whatever.

Hey skibum, what's Misophonia?

I think a subforum for this is a good idea too, maybe titled: Diagnosis and Related Issues.
