I saw a preview for tomorrow's Extreme Makeover where they are going to help out a family with five autistic children.
I was just wondering if anyone is going to watch.
It would be interesting to see how they portray autism and how they design a place to accomodate the family's needs.
It's supposed to come on at 8pm EST Sunday Feb 18 on ABC.
Warning: If you haven't seen it before- it's a big advertisement for Sears.
I've always enjoyed watching EM:HE, so this will be great to watch. I haven't caught the last few episodes, but I can imagine how tough it must be for a family with so many autistic kids, and I am curious to see how they'll handle each child's interests and difficulties. I'll definitely tune in.
They did a show in the past with a son that had autism, that had a mother and father that were special needs too I think, one was blind and other deaf or something. THe room and all they did up for the young man was impressive.

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I am talking EST. Steve
I am able to get the feed for Ontario at 8pm and then I get the feed for British Columbia at 11pm.
I'll try to tape it on the computer... if I do, I'll let you know.
I need to clear some space on my hard drive first though.

I saw that episode I agree it was so touching what they did for that young man. You were right the mom and dad were blind and deaf.

There are 4 aspies in our family, dad, me and my

I'm watching it now... both parents seem aspie-ish, especially the dad, but not TOO much. And from the description it sounds like only 1 or 2 kids are profoundly autistic, the rest are high functioning, and one NT.

The mother impresses me...She obviously loves all of her children, and is terrified of losing them. She said she hated when people asked her why she continued to have so many children, after autism was discovered in her first.

I was thinking that the Dad seems aspie-ish too.
I don't know what it is about him that makes me think that way though.
Both parents are AMAZING!
I can just imagine the stress she goes through on a day to day basis, and I only have one autistic toddler. My son also has a thing for hearing glass break too... I know how frustrating that can be.
Won't all this disruption from routine be traumatizing though? I hope they don't do a shoddy job... this show has gotten in trouble before, with lawsuits, for doing a slap dash job on people's houses.
Maybe we should give a blow by blow for SteveK . They have the frame up and the windows were just delivered.

I'm taping it to the computer... I'll try to get it to SteveK somehow.
I can just imagine how the kids would react to all the newness.
I'd especially be concerned about the non-verbal child. I'm sure the family wasn't expecting them try to change his PECs system to an electronic thing. I HOPE they didn't throw out the actual cards!
I was watching the Simpsons, but my parents were watching Extreme Makeover, and it turned out that one of the consultants in the house design was the psychiatrist who diagnosed me with AS back in 1996.
