Tomorrow I'm going to talk to my GP about getting a referral. I've communicated with the neuropsych and she says that I need to "stress the importance of the evaluation in terms of identifying your functional strengths and vulnerabilities --- important for future treatment planning."

Well, I'm wicked nervous talking to him about this, because I simultaneously need to have him sign paperwork saying that I'm qualified physically (and mentally) to begin RN school in the fall. Hope he doesn't check the YES box on "concerns about emotional ability to perform in school."

Anyhow, potentially two great things in line to happen tomorrow morning!!

Thank you! It went really well. I have my referral!! !! ! :D :D :D :D

He said that it was really good that I was seeking out help and trying to get a better understanding of myself. He asked what was going on, because he had to be able to document a justification for the referral for insurance, and I told him that a huge issue I have that is very related to Asperger's was poor working memory and terrible motor skills. I told him I can't balance on one leg with my eyes closed, I trip all over myself when walking, and I've always had issues with hurting myself accidentally due to my clumsiness. He shook his head and said, "OK, clumsiness is a diagnosis." He wished me luck, and that was that.

Next up, talking to the neurologist for a referral to the neuropsych. My guess is that they want to rule out any brain issues that affect my memory/thinking/executive functioning issues, and motor deficiencies.

Good stuff :D

I think Autistic people do better than average in certain careers. I think an attention to detail would be an asset in becoming an RN.

Best of luck in your career endeavours.

Thank you. My biggest concern is my deficit in understanding others' emotions and expressing my own, so I am sure people will accuse me of being the male version of nurse Rachett, even though I have the best intention. My ultimate goal is to become a NP or nurse anesthetist though, so I doubt I'll be doing bedside care for too long.

At least you'll know where your weak spot is.

Given the bedside manner of some doctors, I'm sure you'll work out just fine.
