Just realized again I hadn't brushed my teeth for a week

I'm at work now, so I can't do it now. (Chances are, I'll forget again before I get home.) Not only that, but since returning to work part-time, my house has gotten more cluttered again.

Don't forget to brush your teeth, even if you have to write yourself reminder notes and stick them to your front door and your bathroom mirror. Dental work is super duper expensive and painful.

I'm becoming forgetful of things of late and have found the best solution is to place a remote control on my pillow which then prompts me to close the windows and check the doors are locked before bed. Perhaps that's something to try for your teeth brushing.

Just a suggestion. You could buy some tooth whitening toothpaste and mouthwash and whitening strips and use them religiously for a week. When you see how much whiter your teeth are, you'll find you take more pride in grooming yourself. Also, it will be more obvious that you haven't brushed your teeth because you'll feel the difference when you run your tongue over your teeth.

Yeah. That is a huge motivator for me. I LOVE the feel of smooth teeth. Anytime they are not totally smooth I can't take it. It really bothers me to no end. I brush my teeth at least twice a day. once in the morning and once before bed and I floss every night. Sometimes I brush and floss after lunch too. I just can't stand the feel of dirty teeth.

Well, I did it when I came home, but I lost the stick-it note to remind me, which I wrote at work. :(

Awww. Well good effort anyway. You'll get it. I know you will. Hugs. :)

For me, sometimes the very act of writing helps me remember, even if I don't look at the note again! :D

Would it help if you carried around a travel toothbrush so that you could brush whenever you remember? Or a normal-sized toothbrush with a cap-thingy on it?

You could carry travel (or normal-sized) toothpaste, too, and brush your teeth in the bathroom with water, but you don't need toothpaste or water to clean off plaque (although your toothbrush would get really gross if you kept using without ever rinsing it off). The toothpaste is mostly for things like fluoride, various antimicrobials and whiteners (like SLS -- I think its primary purpose is to create foam/dispersion, but it does have antimicrobial affect from what I've read, baking soda), and the flavorings/smelly oils for people to taste and smell on breath (mint, cinnamon, fruit flavors) -- it's the brushing with the bristles that really gets plaque off teeth.

I have done this - got outside and realised I have not brushed my teeth or hair - travel size is a must! travel-size mouthwash is good for these times, too, quick, easy, fresh :)

Brushing hasn't been a regular habit of mine for years. I hated it as a kid, and looking back now, a lot of it had to do with sensory issues. I still have a hard time trying to brush now, so I've just sort of accepted that I'm going to need dentures at a young age.

If anyone has tips on how to desensitize my gag reflex so that I can get back into the habit of brushing, I'd greatly appreciate it. I should probably also see a dental hygienist some time since I very likely have gingivitis, if not full-blown periodontitis.

How can you not feel or smell that you need to brush your teeth? Start brushing NOW and don't forget to floss! :D This is from the son and brother of dentists and the brother of a hygienist.

I have had periods like that. The only way to avoid it if you have the tendency is to have a set routine where you do it the same way everyday and it becomes automatic. The problem with that is that when things break your routine, you will skip it.But offensive halitosis once in a while is much better than daily. And your dental bills down the line will be lower if you are disciplined about this.

I hate cleaning my teeth.
The outside of my upper front two teeth hurt like buggery when I brush them... and the "sensitive" toothpaste is anything but.
Result is I tend not to brush them for days until existence itself starts to make them hurt... then the cycle repeats.

But even before that started happening, I hated cleaning my teeth because everything tasted gross for hours afterwards.
And because I'm the sort of person who drinks juice or whatever to stave off boredom... brushing my teeth would screw up a goodly portion of my day...

I did have a period of time before the whole front-upper-incisor-pain deal where I'd brush them every day.... but that got lost the last time I moved house and had to reboot my habits. On the upside, I started showering much more often at that point (another thing I hate, but do because I have to), but it drastically reduced the frequency of my teeth-cleaning.

I never brush my teeth I hate the whole experience
I have brushed only a handful of times in the last 10 years and have no dental problems
my dentist always whines about it but finds nothing. if you dont constantly kill the dominant bacteria in your mouth your body can adapt to it and the bacteria will keep new and worse bacteria from taking hold

Oral health has a lot more to do with diet than brushing. People in primitive societies do not get cavities, despite the fact that they don't brush. That's because their not on the high sugar diet typical of Europeans and Americans. You would do much better for you're teeth by watching what you eat.
