I could only read the abstract of the article. But for what it's worth, since I was a child, I always lie down flat on my back, straight and symmetrically, with arms either by my side or folded over my chest. There's something important to me about the symmetry of it.

I lay on my side, curled up in bed.

I typically lie on my left side going to sleep and wake up on my back in the exact center of my bed.
Recently I've injured my left ribcage, and sleep has been messed up because I have a lot of trouble falling asleep on my right side or back.

I usually lie down on my back with my arms to the side, but sometimes, I would lay on either side with my arms crossed.

It can vary but usually on my side...and I prefer my back towards the wall facing towards the rest of the space in the room.

Usually fetal position, left or right side. Then usually, roll on to my back in the night and start snoring like a chainsaw I'm told. 8O

I sleep on my side, fetal position, with my head curled under, hands tucked under my cheek and/or chin. Prefer the left side but have to switch periodically to avoid getting sore. I'm not comfortable lying on my back.
