Yesterday afternoon I was sitting in the living room with my sisters, and our dog started staring out the glass-paned front door and barking; the way she does when people get to close to our front yard. I though the mail person might be out there, but when I looked out the door, I just saw a red truck pull away from our side of the street, and our mailbox was hanging open. I immediately thought that our accumulated mail from the previous week must have been stolen (we were on vacation), so I called my stepdad, and he thought the same thing. So when he got home, he asked our neighbor and she'd gotten her mail, and we were even more convinced our mail was stolen. So my stepdad sat me down and had me look at pictures of red trucks on Google Images, and even though I hadn't gotten a look at the license plate or the front of the truck, I ID'd the truck as closely resembling a Ford F150 from the 90s. The police came and I gave my description, and my stepdad proudly told him that I've always had a great photographic memory and that I knew what I was talking about. :D Which was good, but it would have been even better if I'd gotten a look at the license plate.

Anyway, we probably won't get our mail back, but maybe this will keep someone else's mail from being stolen.

My neighborhood has had HUGE problems with mail theft. My mom had her new credit card stolen and $1300 worth of charges racked up before the company caught on. She also had a blouse stolen. Now we have a locked mail box. We never used to have mail theft problems, and I've lived here for 12 years.
