This. They should do one in Colorado
AutHaven is in Colorado. We had a retreat in February. It was 3 nights long. The initial cost was $150, but after donations we were able to get the price down to $100 per person. About half the people attending [much smaller than the one in PA or UK] received partial or full scholarships.[ this included shared rooms, food, entertainment, a trip to Denver Aquarium, goody bags, workshops by respected Autistic activists, etc] We asked everyone to pitch in an hour or so a day to help out cooking, cleaning, bringing in firewood, whatever, and everyone understood that they might have a roommate, and that they might have to sleep on an air mattress.
Next year [tentatively third week in March] there is an extra night. The price started at $200,but with donations, we already have it down to $150 and hope to either bring the price down or keep it where it is in order to be able to help more with scholarships.
This past February, the only major problems were caused by the fact that my husband was sick and I kept running to our travel trailer to see how he was doing and begging him to go to the hospital.[ though he had no chest pains, a month later, when he was in the hospital for heart and lung failure, we found out that he probably had a heart attack during that time, and that the heart failure is most likely because of that]Because of that, and noone there feeling comfortable with keeping things running smoothly, we got off schedule a few times.
But it was still awesome and I think it will be even more incredible next year.
