As summer time is approaching, Autistics (including Aspies) all over the world are getting ready to attend the main annual events organized by and for Autistics (including Aspies) -
1) The Association for Autistic Community Conference, in Pennsylvania, USA.
2) Autscape, in East Anglia, UK.

Association for Autistic Community Conference 2014:

Autscape 2014:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt258997.html

Are you intending to join your fellow Autistics and attend one of these events?

If so, which one are you intending to attend? What are you hoping to find there? How do you imagine it would be like?

If not, why not? Is there anything that could be done to make you change your mind?

I would go if the events were in LA or SD, but Pennsylvania and UK are too far and costly for me.

I don't have the time or money to go to either event, and they're both too far away as well. :(

It is called AutHaven.
AutHaven 2014 took place last February, near Denver:

AutHaven 2015 is tentatively scheduled for March or April 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado:

Yes, I am hoping to.

KenG wrote:

I wish to attend both of them, but the Association for Autistic Community Conference is a bit far away for me (although I attended Autistic-run conferences in Pennsylvania in the past). I'd rather just attend Autscape this year, since it takes place near me - only about a 5 hour flight from my home.

Old friends. New friends. Nice conversations. Nice atmosphere. Fun workshops. Interesting presentations. Stimmy toys. Laughs. Music. Some good experiences to remember from now on.

Similar to previous Autscapes, but a bit larger and hence more lively, more exciting and more interesting for me.

AutHaven is in Colorado. We had a retreat in February. It was 3 nights long. The initial cost was $150, but after donations we were able to get the price down to $100 per person. About half the people attending [much smaller than the one in PA or UK] received partial or full scholarships.[ this included shared rooms, food, entertainment, a trip to Denver Aquarium, goody bags, workshops by respected Autistic activists, etc] We asked everyone to pitch in an hour or so a day to help out cooking, cleaning, bringing in firewood, whatever, and everyone understood that they might have a roommate, and that they might have to sleep on an air mattress.

Next year [tentatively third week in March] there is an extra night. The price started at $200,but with donations, we already have it down to $150 and hope to either bring the price down or keep it where it is in order to be able to help more with scholarships.

This past February, the only major problems were caused by the fact that my husband was sick and I kept running to our travel trailer to see how he was doing and begging him to go to the hospital.[ though he had no chest pains, a month later, when he was in the hospital for heart and lung failure, we found out that he probably had a heart attack during that time, and that the heart failure is most likely because of that]Because of that, and noone there feeling comfortable with keeping things running smoothly, we got off schedule a few times.

But it was still awesome and I think it will be even more incredible next year.

Yes! I badly want to go.

The AACC (I'm in the U.S.). I want to experience a new social scene, enjoy the luxury of having room and board provided for me, find out what the autism-friendly sensory environment is like, and freely be weird for once.

I just need to find a way to raise the money! I literally have no one who can help me pay. I started researching crowdfunding websites today, but I don't think many people would contribute. I don't want to put a picture of myself up on the internet, and I don't have any other interesting visuals to attract donors. Open to ideas.

The Association for Autistic Community Conference takes place in California, Pennsylvania. You seem to be living in California. In case the California you live in is in Pennsylvania (rather than on the West Coast), then it should be very easy for you to attend the conference. You could attend during the days and then walk home in the evenings. Since you will be staying off-campus, your registration fee will be much cheaper than most participants'.

(but then, I will not be surprised at all if the California you are living in does happen to be on the West Coast. Oh, well).
