I've realized recently the workaround I developed is a sort of pantomime of eye contact, designed to look like I'm looking at the other person but I'm really not!
The problem is sometimes even trying to look at someone's face it can be like my mind gets stuck on some ridiculous detail like large teeth(GOD I hate open mouth smilers) or pores or hairline or something and it is like my brain freezes. Like I can't take in the whole face and eyes at once.
I've actually been horrified and unable to watch HD movies and TV because of how detailed it can be, it looks "wrong". Either the actors faces have way too much detail, or in newer ones almost cake like makeup.
