My multitasking skills are almost zero and due to this and my lack of social skills and being interested in things that others generally consider makes me strange, I?ve struggled to fit into the workplace and had at least 50 different jobs over my 27 year working life. I?m wondering is there anyone here who has found a job that?s compatible with their ASD traits? I?ve applied for production line jobs (which I?ve done in the past and found to be unstressful), and also car park attendant jobs (which I?ve never done before). I just want a job where I don?t have to multitask or socialise but I?m not getting any replies from these jobs. I think my age goes against me and also because I?m currently an Admin Clerk which is generally considered a better job than Production Line Operative or Car Park Attendant. They probably cannot understand why I want to step down.

I?m currently in the process of collecting evidence to take my boss to tribunal for constructive dismissal. I?m hoping to be out of there by month end. I?ve been offered a position as a care assistant which I will take if I don?t find anything else in the meantime. The problem is I absolutely cannot afford to be without a job or we cannot pay the mortgage, but I?m worried about if I will cope with this job. I?m not sure exactly what it entails. I know I will have to deal with cleaning up disgusting mess but I think I can learn to deal with that but I?m not sure how much multitasking is involved or if I?ll be expected to use my own initiative, which I?m not very good at :(

I?ve made so many wrong decisions in the past and now I?m worried sick I?ll make the wrong decision again. My current job is in a care home and over the years I?ve developed a strong attachment to some of the residents so a care job would give me more contact with these vulnerable people who need to be cared for. This aspect appeals to me but my worry is that I?ll be rubbish at the job and be sacked again, as has happened many times in the past. I don?t know what I?ll do if I?m offered another job before month end because then I?ll have a decision to make and I don?t want to make the wrong one. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

If you have read this (or something like it) before now, I apologize for reiterating it here.

COMMUNITYINCLUSION.ORG: "Supporting Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Quality Employment Practices" (December 2008)
(http://www.communityinclusion.org/artic ... cle_id=266)

It has some general guidelines that I thought might help.

Thank you AspieUtah, the article has given me a better understanding of my issues in the workplace. Unfortunately employers would never be so accommodating to ASD here in the UK, I don't think I would get a job if I were to disclose my ASD :(

It's a sad state of this country that it seems our government are only interested in offering employment help to those who would be/are a burden on the benefits system if they didn't work. I don't fit this category due to my partners earnings so the job centre have no interest in helping me find suitable employment.

I'd like to see the law changed so that all employers are penalised for not employing people with disabilities (I don't see ASD as a disability other than the negative way we're treated by NTs because of it, however it is classed as a disability) and rewarded for each disabled person they employ.
