Worst thing a Psychiatrist/Therapist etc. has told you.

As in the worse advice here's a couple of my experiences.

(I was still depressed over the College issue) I'd go in tell them and the Psychiatrist would say oh she says this then up the dose of the pill. This happen for 3 months afterwards I kept my mouth shut. Then the Psychiatrist yelled HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG?! Me: Uh I don't care (IMO I wasn't getting TRUE behavior help still are not BTW) She said FINE THEN LEAVE! I said Fine and walked out the door

2) Therapist (If I was the Psychology teacher I'd never want to see you again.) UH THAT JUST MADE ME MORE DEPRESSED SHEESH!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !

3) Psychiatrist (You couldn't have AS that's something diagnosed in children and there's no pill for that and this is a place that gives pills. Me: Oh. (I now deal with a new Psychiatrist!

4) Therapist (I kept telling him my issues of behavior upseting parents,Psychology teacher etc. Oh that's issues they have with YOU what issues do you directly have. Me: UH??? (Thankfully that was only 1 session.)

5)The whole just be yourself,look to the future BS! SHEESH! IMO sure go on and have bad behavior AGAIN! GREAT IDEA!! !! !! !! !! !! Sure I might be depressed but I'm not STUPID I realize there's issues that NEED FIXING! So I'm not going to just "go on with my life." GET REAL!! !! !! !

Having just been mis-diagnosed with Schizoid personality disorder, he tells me that "this is the end of a lot of things for you", said with some malice. He clearly did not like me.

When I questioned what Schizoid personality disorder actually was, he said the questions were not relevant, I pointed out an interest in philosphy and he says "a lot of mentally ill people are interested in philosophy". My response should have been "and a lot of psychiatrists are f*****g stupid".

Shame he could not do his job properly, mentioning AS would have helped me somewhat. Especially since leading research in philosophy of psychiatry suggests personality disorders are not coherent or realistic concepts.

Ah yes..........

Aged 6; my 'problem behaviour' at school was due to me 'having a high IQ'; I was just bored (Clinical Psychologist)

Aged 33; my general emotional discomfort was due to 'some dissatisfaction and disappointment' (Clinical Psychologists) who referred me to

Aged 33; 'that's amazing, you've just spoken for 15 minutes and haven't mentioned a single feeling' (Counselling supervisor at my first 'appointment', arranged to select my counsellor)

The last one makes me laugh now; doesn't mention feelings?.......................HELLO

What a jerk!

Worst thing I've ever been told? Many situations come to mind. I still have a psychiatrist who insists I just have PTSD, even though I don't have flashbacks and have been a little Aspie since...well, birth. I was diagnosed with AS by another psychiatrist and I'm wondering if he just felt betrayed that I went to someone else.

I had an awful humanistic-approach therapist for about eight sessions. At first everything was all inspirational, self-esteem bs...and then about three sessions in she just started telling me about all her problems and I sort of became her therapist. I didn't even realize what was going on for about five sessions.

She also gave me all these pamphlets on safe S&M, rimming, and other...intense sexual practices. I was fourteen.

Wow..........can you scan and email them to me please?

Single worst thing? Being told that a Rorschach test, administered by a graduate student and evaluated by someone who had never met me, was completely objective. That statement was to support the theory that seeing two people near a campfire in an inkblot makes me horrible and disturbed.

Another one, more recently, was a psychiatrist who told me that if I don't take Abilify I'll kill myself. And I have no psychotic symptoms and no suicidal thoughts.

Shocking.



Yet another doctor bashing thread.
Can't y'all just bookmark your favorite ones (and there are perhaps literally dozens) and simply refer back to those when you're feeling particularly vehement towards the shrinks who have wronged you?

My point is that there is nothing productive about these threads.

The idea is to be able to vent about something, that's all. People need to do that sometimes. And resurrecting old threads can feel awkward. : )

It's not all doctors, either. It's just specific ones who have messed up in some way. For example, I love my current psychiatrist, therapist, neurologist, urologist, and cardiologist. They're all wonderful people who genuinely try to help me.

Yes there is a point, it vents anger at people who do not do well paid sought after jobs properly. They also fail those they are paid to help. If you take these jobs you should want to help people. It's like teachers who don't like children. They shouldn't be allowed the jobs.

My worst is a toss up between

1. being told by a therapist to look in the mirror every morning and repeat 10 times "I am a good person".

2. being sent to a Psychiatrist for medication and him asking me what did I think I should be on ???? he looked it up in a book and then said "what doseage do you think"?

I pay taxes for this BS.

Yet this post was just amazingly productive...

Number one has happened to me as well, with the humanistic therapist.

As to the dosage thing...wow. Just, wow.

a) post in it, and
b) come back to check for replies?

Why do you even care, g-p? You sure are quick to jump on my case anytime (and every time) you have a bug up your butt.
