Hello Wrong Planet,

Does anyone here identify with the following?:

The name of this forum, "wrong planet" describes me very well. I have been officially and consistently diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome or Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) . However, I have also consistently felt that I was totally misunderstood by all therapists, that many answers I give in survey tests are very misleading, and that testing results are very wrong.
All tests are based on certain assumptions, and in my case many of those assumptions do not hold. All that I have read about ASD seemed way off the mark as far as describing me. However, the nature of the DSM causes people like me to be classified ASD by default. ASD is by far the closest category to me which is in the DSM, but it would be very misleading to consider me ASD.
Therefore, I introduce a new classification for people who are "on the wrong planet" but still feel misunderstood by ASD.

This is "ET" (extra-terrestrial) syndrome, defined by:

1. profound social incompatibility due to differences in almost every psychological realm,
2.Psychological tests give the wrong results, and
3. The condition is inborn, stable, and represent the person's true self, and
4. When reading about ASD, they react by saying, "no, that's not me at all".

If you feel that ET syndrome applies to you better than ASD, please let me know.

Zylon

1. I am very discouraged from trying to communicate with the world, and get very wishy-washy about if to do it or not. I am very depressed about my life, and feel it's no use. I try, then give up, then after a long time, I try again. I am very tired.

2. Unlike what I hear about ASD, my core "defect" is interfacing with the environment (world). It is hard for me to keep track of all the forums I try to attend. My social problems are secondary to my core defect.

3. Years go by very quickly to me.

4. I thought I did post a few times before, but this computer stuff is so complicated to me that I'm not sure what happened.

Can't say that I do, but I enjoyed reading what you described because other people who have mentioned 'I do feel like I'm on the wrong planet', at least when I read it, haven't captured the same essence with me as your post has.

A good post but you realize if you tell people you have ET syndrome they'll just tell you to "phone home".

A label is just that, a label. You may want to consider choosing a different one for what you are proposing.
