why are religions allowed to say that being gay is sick
i live with a group of asian girls who have this view i am bi
they are openly homophobic and yet if i was racist there would be an issue
the other day i was also told by a patient she could not use contraception because of her religion and she could not abstain from sex with her husband because of her culture
i am also working in an area where female circumsion occurs along with domestic violence and hitting children
however all the above are seen as culture or religion
how do i learn to accept this and not get distressed?

Because religion has little to do with truth or fairness.

Religion is a delusion, accept it, they live this way, and would get even distressed if you try to change them, but I would look for some new roommates, sorry, no tolerance for intolerance.

MAN, I HATE the term female circumcision. I mean from what I understand, they generally don't cut AROUND anything anyway! They cut THROUGH it! As much as I hate the idea of it on males(In the US the last generation(MINE), was almost FORCED to have it done!), with females it is WORSE, because they don't generally simply cut around.

BTW That("Female circ...") is, as I understand it, ILLEGAL in the US!

As for the contraception, they could always use the reverse rythm method. If God TRULY wanted them to be pregnant, they would be! Even with random chance, you only have a 16% chance of getting pregnant.

I think you need to quit thinking people are logical. Many of the things they "believe" are simply things they hold on to because they are afraid. If you try to apply logic to that, you will go insane. It's best to just accept that they are mostly illogical and get on with it. And get some new roommates. No point in living with people who don't want to tolerate you. Between work and home you are living in a very toxic environment.

Exactly. People are rational most of the time, and logical only by accident.

Some religions, in my mind, are a bit cult like and sick. I am not going to name specific ones, but I think they were actually rule books written by men to have power over women. Selfish twisted men at that. By the looks of things, it's for sexual power more than anything else. I think they use the excuse of 'religion' to make unacceptable behaviours acceptable. For example, the whole female circumcision thing, that is to prevent a female having any pleasure during sex. Why would someone want to do that? Plus the whole idea that women cannot abstain from sex with her husband. This is right if there is religion attached to it, which sickens me as to me this is rape. And rape is illegal, hence I really don't get religions like this.
