How do you change a special interest (collecting hot wheels) over to another special interest?

What are you interested, aside from collecting hot wheels?

Reading, I'm otherwise not good at or enjoy anything else. I have an extreme difficulty making friends and finding romantic relationships due to my AS.

You can take a break from hotwheels if you like. Just put them away in a box or on a shelf and then you can read books that you find interesting instead. And later, if you want to pull out the hotwheels and collect them or play with them you can do that.

If you like to read, you could create special interests out of what you like to read.

If you like Dostoyevsky, say, you could develop an interest in Dostoyevsky--and, by extension, Russian culture.

If you like novels, you could develop a special interest in the author, or his nationality, or his method of writing, etc.

You know I thought of doing that with John Steinbeck.

I love John Steinbeck. He would be a great author to do that with.

Should I write an article about him? If I do, where can I post it so others can read?

Starting a blog is a good way of posting things where others can read them, and no one can tell you that what you're posting is wrong or doesn't fit a specific forum because it's your blog. I have one about life on the spectrum: https://theaspierabbit.wordpress.com/ I started it the day I got my diagnosis. Changing special interests can be hard, because you can't force yourself to be interested in something (I tried it with birds; didn't work) but you can hunt around and keep an eye out for anything that catches your attention; that's how I fell in love with the X-Men. One wikipedia page was all it took. Any particular reason you're trying to shed your current interest?

I fell in love with Tennessee Williams after watching "A Streetcar Named Desire" and wondered who wrote this.

Steinbeck is great, the epitome of Great Depression/Dust Bowl realism (American context).

I identify, somewhat, with the intellectually-challenged character in "Of Mice and Men." I was often treated the way he was treated as a child.

It's not a bad thing to know all things Steinbeck.

Myna birds. They're wonderful!! !

However, it has been my experience that you can't really pick your Special Interests. You can try but I don't think it'll last. It may for you but any interest I've ever had, both life long and short term have always just come to me. I can't get interested in something for long if it's something I've sat down and thought "what can I be interested in now?"

Remember. Myna birds!! !
:)
