I think I'll end up as a hermit depending on what happens to the wife and kids. They might drag me through life as a regular citizen. Bless them and their souls. However, if they were to be prematurely vanquished .... I would happily retire to some sort of cave somewhere. I would forgo the internet, the telephone, electricity and so forth. I would quite happily 'tune in and drop out' (Google it to learn more).

Then again I might find my cave somewhere, get bored after a week and head back to civilisation, gobbling fast food first then finding a decent library and books etc.

Are you a potential hermit?

I'll be real happy if I become independent enough for that. Not needing assisted living. I'm petty much a hermit now as much as I can be. or was before we moved and after school was over. spent as much time by myself in my room as possible.

Ezra: it seems like you've moved into a scenic area. Do you ever feel like just going out and seeing the sights?

For being an aspie, the hermit lifestyle is the safest way to live, if you think about.

Yes, I myself am making plans to be a hermit in the woods. I think I will spend around $20k-25k to make it happen. It will take me about three years to save that money from my SSDI checks. I live with my mom now and she doesn't charge me rent, I am almost done paying off some old debts and after that I will start saving. I have no wife or kids and no living family other than my parents. I want to produce my own food and use solar panels for what little electricity I will need. I plan on using propane for cooking and heat. I will have a well drilled for water.

I could never be a total hermit. I love my alone time, but I do find that I need to interact with humanity once every couple of days. For me a trip to the store is enough face to face time, and chatting on the internet in games and on forums enough social interaction.

If I had the survival skills and a suitable environment in which to exercise them.... sure.

But alas, I'm not trained to survive in the wilderness... so I likely wouldn't do so well if I tried.

For now, I stick to the "Urban Hermit" thing. Similar, but with access to supermarkets and public transport.

Constantly. My dad loves to take in the sights too, so we have gone for a lot of walks together. Yesterday my mom and dad took me to see a lighthouse and watch a ferry dock and take off again and walk along the beach. But I would love so much to be able to just take off on my own to see stuff.

You would have to be a solitary monk in the monastery? I guess the monks sworn to silence might be hermits in a psychological rather than physical sense. It would amount to hermitage living but with all the supports of being within a community. I don't like the idea much because you are still sharing facilities and there are bound to be conflicts about the use of those facilities. True hermit life is truly solitary.

What ink about this guy? Lived all alone in a small cabin for 30 years. Recorded tons of stuff in journals in great detail. I think this man was likely an aspie.

Potential urban hermit. At one point I had friends and was known... though had became less known and was distant from nearly all my friends. Then I moved. Now the only people I know that live around me are family.
