I took one and I'm feeling nothing. It was about an hour ago now.

I was expecting a "wack in the face" type hit from it, but I don't feel nothing but a little heavy eyes, and some mild dizziness. I feel relaxed, and I sort of feel more focused on what I'm doing if that makes sense.

Is what it's meant to do? I'm on 1mg.

in short: Lorazepam is used for the short-term treatment of anxiety, insomnia, acute seizures including status epilepticus, and sedation of hospitalized patients, as well as sedation of aggressive patient

I took Lorazepam (Ativan) for years, also Clonazepam (Klonopin) and Alprazolam (Xanax) for a time. I actually got a little addicted even though it made me sleepy. I could pass out for hours on that stuff, but it helped me forget life more than it helped my anxiety. The only thing I take now other than my BCP is Risperidone and I'm going off that too. Stopping methylphenidates was the BEST thing I ever did, though. Lol.

I take Alprazolam, but the effects aren't acutely noticeable unless I am very agitated. I am less likely to get overwhelmed, which is nice.

1mg lorazepam is very low, thats why its not working greatly, they will probably work out the dose as it goes along based on how it presents.

had been on lorazepam for a long time, found it just like diazepam but a bit longer lasting.
temazepam was the best vallium form had ever taken.

You're probably right. Doctor will be out to visit tomorrow to decide on the dose. It's the ONLY tablet that I have found has worked for anxiety and depression so far.

Felt an attack coming on all day so I took one. Within 45 minutes I was normal. No anxious thoughts, no bad thought. Felt a bit sleepy, and a bit "high" but was functioning perfectly normal.

I ended up lying on the bed relaxing to music watching the trees move outside. Very therapeutic. Until I started laughing at the trees. I was making shapes out of the branches - like people do with clouds - and it was causing me to giggle.

Apart from that though I am very satisfied with these medications!

Well if your attack subsided and you felt a bit sleepy and relaxed along with a bit high not to mention giggling at trees, I would say it is doing its job at least for now. You don't want to be sedated all the time because then you'll just lay around and sleep. I'd say for now you are just fine, might have to adjust dosage later if your system develops a tolerance to it. To me it sounds like it is working quite well for you. I personally take xanax and have for years. Changed my dosage only once and I have been good since. But I don't take them daily only as needed. I think that is the key to being successful with this class of drugs as if you take them too often, either it isn't the correct dosage, tolerance has set in, or a change of meds is indicated.

I agree. I get worse sedation effects from Citalopram. I didn't really feel overly sedated today. I was able to function, cook a nice dinner, make a bit of music, and clean up the house. Compare that to Tuesday where I was in bed rocking back and forth the entire day staring at a single spot on the wall.

Massive improvement!

Do Xanax act quickly with the same mood lifting effects as lorazepam?

Yes I have taken both. Like both equally. My doc will probably give me the lorazepam next time a change is needed. He said that often a dosage increase isn't necessary. Just bouncing back and forth between to that work help prevent tolerance buildup to the meds.

That's about right, especially on a low dose like 1mg. Kinda makes you want to curl up on the couch and watch mindless daytime TV by yourself. Or maybe have a nap.

When I was a teenager and having massive anxiety problems they put me on 3mg Lectopam (bromazepam). I don't think they'll even prescribe that stuff outside of a hospital psych ward these days - it's kinda like the battleship of the 'pams.

When I was on it felt 100% fine - no anxiety, no worries. None whatsoever. Nothing. Nada.

Didn't want to stop taking it --> thus, must be super addictive. Bet that's why they don't dish that one out anymore.

That's EXACTLY what it's supposed to do, in the best-reaction scenario.

I love that stuff; if it didn't knock me out and turn me into a total space case I would be on it now.

When my kids get a little older-- old enough that they're not likely to die if Mommy is absent-minded all the time and passed out on the couch a couple of afternoons a month-- I probably WILL take it, at least on those horrible days when I'm a walking meltdown just waiting for a trigger.

Word of warning: Don't abuse it. Because you do develop a tolerance, and it is addictive.
