I'm curious to know how the members of Wrong Planet view humor and comedy.
I once read a study that found individuals with Autism/Aspergers tend to have a very unconventional sense of humor compared to their peers. Now I don't mean to generalize and realize that humor has a lot to do with ones personality and such, but I have found this to be true in regards to myself.

I don't really enjoy conventional humor much...I don't enjoy watching comedy movies at all, and I find "stand up" to be pretty boring and uninteresting.

Thats not to say I don't have a sense of humor though. I do, but it revolves much more around randomness and off the wall ridiculousness (like the humor you see in cartoons/Anime). I guess in a way it is more child-like.

I was curious if anyone could relate, or share their thoughts on Humor!

I have found that my sense of humor is much different than those around me. For instance, things that are ironic or things that are self-depreciating(sp?) are generally what I think are funny. My favorite comic is Josh Blue. Things that NT's find funny, I usually think are stupid or not funny at all. Then again, many NT's (or at least the ones where I live) like to laugh at others.

Personally I like black humor and ironic real life events. For example I had quite a lot of fun when our public TV added a religious canal and the same day most of our public TV canals (but not the religious one ) got offline because of some technical issues - I commented it as: "From now we live in a religious state, only religious canals on public TV!" and "Thats the will of God!". No one laughed.

But I also laugh from things that a lot of people consider funny. For example those "funny cats" compilations on youtube.

I find my sense of humour rapidly evaporating.

I have an extremely dry, deadpan sense of humor... Only a few people, my very close friends, find my sarcasm funny. Most people can't tell if I'm being serious or not.

But I don't know what my sense of humor would have been like had my family not had this same deadpan sense of humor; I learned from them to be sarcastic. (I'm kind of a parasite that moulds into the shapes of what I should be in the shape of at the time.) It's just survival instinct for me to adapt to my surroundings and take on certain people's senses of humor before I embarrass myself. With my close friends, I use my sarcasm. With a different circle of friends, they don't use sarcasm and don't understand it, so I've learned to use their sense of humor when I'm around them.

But yes, default setting is probably deadpan humor.

I think I am hilarious. Sometimes I am not the only one laughing. When I am on places like this I write things just to crack a laugh out of myself sometimes. Most think I'm serious. I am not serious about anything on facebook. That place is just stupid.... (laugh again)... people got soo mad at me on there, I kicked myself off. As far as stand up. George Carlin. The old stuff. Like Carlin on campus. That one cracked me up pritty good.

Dry, dark, absurd and surreal. This is the perfect summery.

I can relate fully to what you say. I too am dismayed at the vast majority of the scripted humour one finds in films and sitcoms, but find a lot of the "off the wall" stuff, for example in the WP forum section of that name, very funny indeed. Dry, ironic, even acerbic humour is also much appreciated, I suspect, by people on the spectrum.

Your contributions in the "Make a sentence using a word in the wrong context" thread (in the "Off The Wall" section), are among the funniest things I have read on WP!

This may not be appropriate so I do apologize if anyone finds this story offensive. Example of my humor: This is a truth based story, There was a coupled who sponsored a young man from another country to come to the US and go to college. They spent allot of money on him, they provided him clothing, housing, food and so forth. One year prior to his degree in nursing he had non consensual sex with the 64 yr old woman that had been helping him. She made a police report regarding the incident and later dropped the charges. But the state picked up the case and was proceeding with the criminal charges. If convicted the young man faces time in prison and will be deported. It also means that the lady and her husband will be out all the money they had invested in the young man. One could say that the lady literally go screwed.
