I was curious to know if anyone has had a brain scan done and it revealed abnormalities. I had one done 3 years ago by a neurologist and it detected two abnormalities that were perinatal. I know that sometimes autism can be diagnosed by a brain scan.

I wish I had the money for a brain scan. I'd like to see what my brain looks like.

I'd also want to know, how wide is the range of quote 'normal' MRIs ?

Typial findings are enlargement of the brain and the lateral and fourth ventricles, and reductions in the size of midbrain, medulla oblongata, cerebellar hemispheres and some vermal lobules (and some findings related to to head banging)

Results are inconsistent. It can't be used to confirm or refute a diagnosis of ASD.

PS: I want to know your findings :)

I have only been to a three-minute MRI, which doesn't give as much information as a longer one, but as far as I know it was normal. On the other hand, my EEG says that there's an area in my left temporal lobe that functions slower than it should. It's probably congenital, because I have not hurt my head.

Who told you that?

Autism can not be diagnosed by a brain scan. Yes, many autistics show abnormalities, but the particular abnormalities vary a lot, and there are non-autistic people with similar anomalies. No brain abnormality is diagnostic of autism.

Ive had hundreds of them as ive a brain tumour and have one every three months.
They dont hurt and you can sometimes listen to music during the MRI.
You have to lie very still when ur having the MRI.
i totally agree with you Ettina.
MRI scans can take anything up to thirty minutes.
Hope this sorts all your queries about mris
