II 'm going to start a blog but do not have the slightest idea how to get it started [and continuing] Do you think if I paid someone a couple hundred dollars that they would be able to help me set up a blog and teach me how to go on from there?

There are likely courses you could take at your local library or seniors/community centre however I'm willing to bet that someone here would likely help you for free.

vicky,
am experienced in blogs.
if need physical help setting it up please ask. :)

unless have got a fair bit of money to spend every month, its better to have the blog on blogger/word press, because free shared servers are overcrowded and unstable which woud lead to a lot of downtime for the blog.
its also a lot easier to maintain on blogger/word press,as all software/security updating is down to them.
