How many of you guys make fashion choices based on what expresses your personality or aesthetic sense? By this I mean how many of you wear clothes for reasons outside of comfort and trends?

I do. I use fashion more as a way to express my personality than I do as a way to fit in. I want to look like a Kinks Fan who lives in a time warp, because that's the real me.

The main ways my clothing expresses my personality are shirts with phrases on them. One of my favorites is a tee shirt that says "I'm not really ignoring you, I'm autistic. Ok.... yeah, I'm also ignoring you."

Do you mean factory made, "off the hanger" clothing?
How would this work? How would such a limited choice of clothing (especially for men) express anything unique?

I guess I don't, I just wear clothes. Get arrested if ya don't.

I'd say I sort of do that, not sure it exactly expresses my exact personality....but certainly some of my interests, though comfort is important to me as well, luckily my style of choice can certainly be comfortable. I like rock/metal music so that has some influence on my clothing like I wear a lot of band t-shirts and have one long sleeved, which are rather lose usually unless I cut them and tie them in the back and such which I do to some since it can look cool and sometimes a full t-shirt is too hot in warm weather, I also have plain colored shirts of dark colors which are usually tighter fitting and various . I also have a patch vest with patches of bands I like.

For pants I have some camoflauge ones that are loose fitting, and a few pairs of tighter jeans but they aren't like skin tight and constricting, some with holes in them, and of course my wallet with wallet chain and usually black high top shoes, though not always. I also wear vintage type stuff sometimes and sometimes when I am low on clean clothes(usually means the ones I usually wear are all dirty) I will wear whatever I can find, I admit I've gone out in some strange outfits before in that situation.

I wear comfortable clothes and always wear the same kind of clothes. I always were blue jeans. They have to be blue, I won't wear any other color jeans.
All my jeans are levi's except for one pair. It really bothers me that the one pair is not levi. No reason except that it should be because all the others are.

As long as they match and are comfy, and don't draw attention, I'm happy.

I tried being a bit trendy once. I think I tried too hard.. lol

interesting.... ive narrowed my wardrobe down to converse trainers slim fit trousers and check shirts. Lines and symmetry is pleasing. I actually think its my way of sticking it to the gender fascists who say that men should wear y and women should wear x. My clothing choices are totally androgynous as is my personality. Im not interested in being effeminate or masculine , all that matters is whether my construction consists of personally pleasing shapes. That said I wear 2 shirts 2 jeans and 1 pair of trainers all the time  1 pair of trousers actually has bleach stains :?

Red tank-tops and hoodies, black/gray jeans.

There was a time people were scolding me for being a bad human because of my problems with fitting in. It was really unpleasant to feel I don't fit their expectations of being "good", that they had on me because of my innocent look.
Red and black color combination means: I am selfish, evil and confident. When I wear those people no longer assume me being a normal girl and they except me to be bad girl and act my way. So there is no more "Why did you do that? I was thinking you are such a good girl..." moments that I hated. When I do something wrong people are less surprised because they excepted me to act so. And when I do something good - they are surprised but they will praise me instead of scolding. "I had no idea you are such a good girl!".
Also people no longer bully me because the color I wear says "don't mess with me or you're gonna be sorry".

Actually I am not evil (I like helping people and I hate seeing people suffer) but I am selfish and confident. So the colors not only save me from being hurt but also fit my current personality. Or perhaps the colors created my personality? I was not confident till I started wearing those.

I wear very soft, feminine clothing that is reminiscent of other eras or other cultures. I wear skirts most of the time. I like vintage-inspired clothing. I wear a lot of pastel colors and floral prints in summer. Long skirts and boots in winter. I dress for comfort but also to show that I'm old fashioned and I have a very romantic nature.

I tend to only really do this when dressing up for some occasion, or when going out and I want to look decently presentable. Sooo, not very often.

My typical attire for work = thrift store jeans & t-shirts; totally function over form. I have far greater uses for money than blowing it on a wardrobe. That may change if/when work dictates that I need different clothing. Same for if I end up going out a bit more often.. but I do own some decent clothes that I can probably get by wearing for quite some time.

If there comes a point in my financial life where I have enough money not to worry one iota about the cost of fashionable clothes, then I might splurge more on them.. but at this point I can't be bothered to spend $$ on clothing at the opportunity cost of saving & investing it.

My clothes are all incredibly cheap since I buy online with caveat emptor in mind naturally. My shirt was marked down from 40 to 3 pounds . I wont spend more than 10 on a shirt 30 on trainers and 30 on jeans. All my clothes are also originally from high street shops too for what's its worth. Secondhand for the win! (after a good 60 degree wash cycle of course)
