"Oh nice shirt" (the guy at the theatre making the popcorn/soda said) to me. It ALWAYS takes an extra second for me to connect the wires/dots to "Oh he's talking about my shirt" to usually I look down and "Oh I'm wearing a Zelda *insert shirt* usually some character Mario etc. today was actually Zelda. I said oh thanks. Then we started small talk on I went to a Zelda concert and he started talking about driving his 4x4 in the pouring rain when he's off in 2 hrs. and he had 30+ something tattoos most he did himself and a Zelda tattoo on his back. Lost me with the vehicle comment and not a fan of tattoos (although would have been cool to see his Triforce tattoo on his back being a DIEHARD Zelda fan and all.) Otherwise the conversation was lost on me. "Oh nice shirt" always confuses me!! ! I don't wear Mario/Zelda cartoon etc. to appeal to people or get attention it's just what I like to wear and showing I like Mario Zelda etc. I'm a fan of those games. I don't expect "Oh nice shirt" it's a hard comment for me to wrap my head around. I know the social context of sorts but was I right? to start a conversation?

Another "Nice shirt" comment at the grocery store (on a Kingdom Hearts shirt) we talked about KH 3 coming by 2017 hopefully. Otherwise that comment annoys me and seems confusing.

Interesting contradiction. Think about it.

One time I was wearing a t-shirt with Betty Boop on it and some teen girl says to me two or three times as I walk by "I like your shirt!" and I said "Yeah, well you can't have it." :P

This is why I stopped wearing shirts with things written on them. I figured out that people use them to start conversations, and that wasn't what I was going for.

People say nice shirt because they can connect with it in regards to how a shirt looks, what it reads, or what texture the shirt has. Nothing wrong with that!! Maybe people who like your shirt just might be trying to connect somehow with you. Is that so horrible? I don't think you should shoot people down because they like your shirt. They're probably aspies just like yourself and want to reach out in aspie-type acquaintance. Sheesh, calm down man. 8)

This is funny, I have worn shirts and sometimes wondered if perhaps I might get a comment on them from another fan of said show/band whatever but people never say anything to me.

If you don't want the attention though I would try a plain shirt with nothing on it, people tend to give you attention even if you don't want it and a shirt with a statement or character on it only gives them topic fuel for something they can then try to chat with you about.

That's what I do now too - when I was younger being told I had a 'nice shirt' used to throw me right off. I'd stand there looking like a deer staring into headlights and not know what to say.

Usually, if people say something like this to me, I ignore it.

i work for a well known 3d software company and i have been given over the years TONS of tshirts with our company name and logo on so i am waring them alot, saves me from buying my own. ive had people all over europe sometimes in the strangest of places (airport security no less!) say "cool shirt, do you use that software?" i reply "of course, i am the inhouse artist" . cue jaw hitting floor.

I thank the person who's giving me the compliment, because I know they genuinely mean it when they tell me they like my shirt.

Well, its nice to know complementing a girl has the opposed affect of whats intended. perhaps it is better after all to be that jerk to get their attention instead,
