When dogs lick me, it feels abrasive and sometimes, when I'm stressed, I react very strongly to my dog licking me. Sometimes people see this "overreaction" to being licked and assume that I am just grossed out by being licked and tell me I should try to get used to it.

I know that licking is how my Toby says I love you, and I usually can tolerate it fine, but some days I just can't.

Cats' tongues straight up HURT.

Happy (end of) National Dog Day, fellow Americans! :)

Is it the sensation of your skin being dragged by the tongue? I find it ticklish, I'm okay with dog slobber on my clothes instead. Cat tongues feel like a small wire brush :)

Yeah, I agree that certain dogs' tongues can feel abrasive, although I usually find dog's tongues to just feel "slobbery." And you're definitely right about cats' tongues.

My cat used to lick my neck. I didn't like it at first but after a couple years she didn't quit and I started to like it.

I don't like the sensation either. I just tolerate a small amount so as not to hurt my dogs feelings, but will steer the activity to something else.

Of course my dogs see thru this and use threat licking as a way to make me do things. Like scratch my neck or give me attention or I will lick you. That's how they wake me also, that and whacking my head with their paws or jumping on my back.

Immediately when I saw the thread title I honestly thought 'is the OP sure they don't mean cats' but beings this is an autism forum we can have sensory issues but those can vary. Sounds like probably a sensory thing and I think stress can make sensory issues worse so that is probably why it bothers you more when you're stressed. I mean I generally don't mind being licked by dogs but somtimes it can get to be too much or there is a dog my dad sort of aqquired whos small and I don't mind if she licks sometimes but she will overdo it to the point it is gross having her little wet tongue jabbing at you. But I have never found a dogs tonge to be abrasive, if they feel that way to you its no wonder cat tongues hurt.

lol yesterday or something I ate a pickle and apparently cats really like the smell it leaves on your fingers becausae my little black cat started licking on them and then straight up trying to eat them, and damn cat teeth are sharp so I stopped her from that and then she just started biting random areas but softly like my leg, the robe I was wearing and it was kinda funny.

My brothers cat likes to wake me up by coming and loudly meowing and staring at me till I get up, or she will jump on my bed get right in my face and go 'meeeeaaaaawwwwww!' if I don't, or she starts head butting me.

I like my cat's tongue better. I don't mind my dog licking me, the problem is I'm extremely ticklish. I don't mind him licking my hand, but my face or anything else, it's tickle torture.
