After a week of not doing. I did it right after eating ice cream, so the sugar wouldn't light the bacteria up.

And if you go another week....if you eat ice cream or anything sugary the sugar from that will still lighten up the bacteria. I suppose I am a bit perlexed as to why that is a concern if you regularly don't really brush them wouldn't that happen anyways with going weeks without brushing?

Is there some occasion you're attenting to where you want clean teeth.......or you've forgot to brush them for a week and it finally came to light so you did? Guess I don't really get the thread or what the point really is exactly.

I brushed my teeth this morning because of a gross taste on the back of my tongue.

During one of my worst periods I didn't brush for over a year - yes I do mean nearly 13 months.

That, however, was over two years ago and the end damage was two upper rear teeth being pulled and eight fillings (still under way). I asked the dentist why more damage hadn't been done and his reply was "well, you drink three cups of black coffee every day which does help remove plaque". Sceptical about the reply, either way science does show that a little bit.

I can't remember ever being consistent in brushing my teeth ? something I'm not proud of. I've probably never went longer than a week without brushing though (or two days now.)

You need to brush your teeth two times per day.
It is unhealthy not to brush your teeth.
Try to make it a top priority to brush your teeth.

On the rare occasion that I get into bed forgetting to brush my teeth first, that icky "my-teeth-are-covered-in-moss" feeling gets me out of bed in a hurry. Once I've realized I've forgotten there's no way I could get to sleep till I've rectified the situation :D

I don't seem to have this feeling. In fact, sometimes brushing my teeth feels weird.

I know its importance, though, because I have a bicuspid aortic valve with mild regurgitation. Because of this, I am more vulnerable to endocarditis, which can be caused by not brushing your teeth.

I don't know about that...at best I brush my teeth once a day, sometimes twice if I feel the need. But I am forgetful so I will tend to forget to brush them for a few days at a time sometimes, or go somewhere overnight and forget a toothbrush. But I have never had a cavity or had to have any teeth pulled.

My siblings always where much better about brushing theirs on a regular basis and both had cavities a couple times. Another weird thing with me is fluoride toothpaste makes me nauseous...so I either use that organic/natural toothpaste that comes in non-flouride kinds and is made of herbal/plant ingredients or baking soda and sea salt when I am able to remember brushing them.

I forget a lot too. I never go to the dentist either. I've never had my teeth cleaned at the dentist.

Damn, I learned about that in microbiology, it isn't pretty. Some bacterial biofilms are difficult to penetrate with antibiotics so you really should brush your teeth more often. Come up with some strategies to help you remember when to brush your teeth, like setting an alarm or leaving a reminders. Once it becomes a habit then it'll be much easier.

I like brushing my teeth and how my teeth feel afterword. I have an electric toothbrush and I like how it feels on my teeth.

white boards or post it notes can be useful for remembering things as well.

Why don't you just brush them when you have a wash. Get into a routine of doing it and then you wont forget.

I don't understand all the fuss!

I haven't been able to get myself to brush regularly since I moved out of my parents house 8 years ago. It's a combination of sensory sensitivity to brushing my teeth and forgetting to do it. My teeth have suffered a lot for it. I have so much anxiety about going to a dentist that I avoid gong. I'm not proud of this, and it has caused me to wonder if I really can take care of myself and keep myself healthy.

I know that it's really bad for me, but it feels like there's some kind of disconnect in my brain between knowing it and actually accepting that I need to do something about it. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone. :?
