I have a friend/man I was dating whom I believe is on the spectrum. Do you think simply sending him a link to Wrong Planet would be a good way to broach the subject? We have discussed his 'difference' and he is well aware that I know about it. I don't think a relationship will be possible with him, despite his declaration of love to me. He is simply too detached and communication is sparse, despite the fact that he says he wants a baby with me.

I have discussed him in 'awareness of your Aspergers' and 'help with an Aspie man' in previous threads. If he were an NT man, I would have cut off contact long ago. There's something special about this person to me, and it hurts me to know that he could have support in knowing that he is not alone.

Sure, I think it would be a good idea. Of course, if he's not receptive to entertaining the notion that he might be on the spectrum, he might take offense. Just make sure you make it clear to him you're doing it out of deep concern and affection.

Maybe you should just show him a book or article about Asperger's. Don't suggest that he may have it, just let him read it.

Give him a book on Aspergers first, then if he becomes more open to the idea that he could possibly be the spectrum, show him Wrong Planet.

I don't see anything wrong with sending him a link to the site--it's not necessarily implying that he's "supposed to" be here, there's a lot of good information that is as good (or better, in some cases) as anything in a book.

Send him link to the rdos or the 50 questions aspie quiz first. He might want to know more after that - you will send him the forum link then. You should also do it if he end up getting a very high score even if he doesn't ask for more info.

You might call it "an interesting quiz" and say you are curious of how much points he gets. It's quite funny to compare results. I even made my NT friends to it (only 50 questions quiz though, rdos was "too long"). Funny thing: I was thinking at least one of my friends will be close to the spectrum. She ended up with 13/50. The guy that I was considering 100% NT got more than the "aspie looking" one, 18/50...

This sounds like a great idea...I'll try this. Thanks!

I think if a person comes to WP and finds a connection here, it can really help them. If you have already talked to him about his differences and he is not defensive about it, then it seems to me he is likely receptive to learning more. I would just go and say it: You think he may be AS. Aspies love the truth (mostly).

I would thank you for it, I had never even heard of Aspergers until I was diagnosed with it! This was a couple of years ago, when it did not have such a high profile.

Phew! All is well. He got a 31. He's not angry at me at all. We're communicating a bit more. I'm going to give him some time. I'm sure he looked up more information on the topic.

I was scared that he would never speak to me again :(
