I was on 10 mg/day of Zyprexa, but today I decided I was through with it and its weight gain. I've discarded the bottle along with that nasty Metformin. Now I can finally see my weight begin to drop.

If I go mad, then let me go mad.

has the doc said its ok to drop like that?
the wikipedia article says its a bad idea;

Quote:
The British National Formulary recommends a gradual withdrawal when discontinuing anti-psychotic treatment to avoid acute withdrawal syndrome or rapid relapse.[41] Due to compensatory changes at dopamine, serotonin, adrenergic and histamine receptor sites in the central nervous system, withdrawal symptoms can occur during abrupt or over-rapid reduction in dosage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zyprexa

can relate about the weight gain problem though,am on another highly potent anti pyschotic [haldol/haliperidol] and have put on so much weight from it.
perhaps its worth seeing if theres any moderate potency anti pyschotics thatd be useful,think they have more problems with tardive than weight gain if remember correctly.

Metformin? I take that to control my diabetes, I'm on the maximum dose of it. How can you just drop taking that; if you are diabetic your blood sugar levels will alternate between being dangerously high and dangerously low. High levels of sugar in the blood damage all organs in the body including your brain and eyes. Why stop taking it?

Metformin was meant to control the weight gain caused by the Zyprexa (which it did a poor job of, IMO). I do not have diabetes or even prediabetes. If the Zyprexa went, then the Metformin would go, too.

Anyway, I've thrown caution to the wind. The medication is now beyond my reach. Whatever happens will happen. At least it'll give me something to do.

I've retrieved the medication. What I could not imagine was how I would get to sleep without it.

What caused me to throw out the medication was the realization that even if every trans person were covered for SRS there would only be 2 doctors for thousands of trans people, resulting in one long waiting period; what's more, 1 of those doctors has a bad reputation.

In my despair, I threw out my medication, only after realizing my mistake.

They've been restored to their place of honor among my medication. :D

Be careful. Last time I stopped my Olanzapine (Zyprexa) I ended up sectioned by the police because I was going to set fire to myself in Wimbledon Common :s

That must have been terrible. Nevertheless, there is a fear of relapse, so I shouldn't tempt it.
