Do you crave salty food or salt?

There was a thread about salt craving very recently that was moved to the health & fitness subforum. Some people and I posted there. I wonder why TallyMan didn't move this one there as well. There's no mention of autism in this thread. Or is craving salt an "aspie thing"?

Yes, I guess I was looking for a correlation between ASD and salt cravings. (I know asking here does not constitute a scientific answer to the question).

Well I've just had salt on my steamed baby potatoes.

I don't know whether that helps.

I nearly did move it, but decided to wait to see if the OP was probing for some sort of tenuous association of the craving with Asperger's. In general if a topic has no connection at all to Asperger's or autism it gets moved to a more appropriate forum.

It's the sweet or sugary stuff I crave. Cookies, cakes, pastries, pies, chocolate... if I didn't care about becoming the size of an elephant, diabetes, heart disease, and dying, I'd practically live on them. Most salty foods I like are more of the salty-sweet variety, like BBQ-flavored chips.

Yes. Too much. My mom use to yell at me for eating straight salt. As a kid I would lick the top of the salt shaker when no one was looking. When I got older I'd just sprinkle it in the palm of my hand and hide to lick it. Now that I'm older I just eat a lot of salty snacks.

I use to crave sugar when I was a kid. But I lost that craving sometime in my early 20 and have move to craving salt ever since.

the only time I can permit myself to eat a lot of salty stuff is when I'm sweatin' to the oldies, otherwise it tends to cause fluid retention.

I put salt on many things, to include rice, which one would think tastes good on its own.

I know this is not healthy. I should get rid of my salt dispenser.

I crave both, but I crave salt more than I crave sweets. Salt and vinegar chips are the best for this.

Love salt and vinegar chips. Most often I nosh on seeds in the shell. Pumpkin and sunflower seeds have a good coating of salt but take a bit of work to eat. Fulfills the craving but slows me down so I can't eat as much.
