My most favorite of all my possessions is my iPod. It carries music that allows me to escape at any time. It also gives me an excuse to carry noise cancelling headphones. I am extremely sensitive to light.
Two days ago, I updated my iPod to iOS 8. The screen is now too bright for me even on the lowest setting. The colours are all very bright and it's terrible. It causes my eyes to feel terrible, like they are burning.
This caused the worst meltdown for the last three years. I can't go within ten feet of my iPod at the moment. It's ruined. Apple ruined my iPod. Right now, I find it unbearable to think about my iPod, but I can't get it out of my mind.
I spent about three hours in an explosive meltdown that started within minutes of the update and I managed to hurt myself pretty badly. Now I think I've imploded.

could you attach a slightly shaded piece of plastic over the screen to dim the light? not sure it that would work if you have to touch the screen (don't have an ipod so I don't know if you do) but that might work, and if you have to touch the screen maybe a slidable plastic cover so you could see the screen, finds what you want, and remove the plastic to tap it, again not sure if this would work but it's the best idea I can come up with, sorry

I have issues with iOS 8 myself, but you can go to settings on your i-pad and alter the brightness on your screen. That should help.

For now, put on sunglasses to view your screen and try to undo the damage or find a solution on google. I'm sure you're not the only one bothered by this.

Good luck finding a fix. I know my computer and my music are hugely important objects to me, and I have had awful meltdowns in relation to them.

Unfortunately, there isn't a jailbreak for iOS 8 yet. That could take 3 or 4 months. Luckily, jailbreaking Apple products is entirely legal here.

I did find a way to downgrade my iPod back to iOS 7.1.2, so I'm working on that at the moment. I hope I can still do that...

For the meantime, I managed to find a few settings that helped a lot.
I reduced motion and increased contrast. The colours are nearly as bad anymore, but it still isn't good.

Thanks for your responses everyone

I hate to tell you, but iOS 7.1.2 isn't much better than iOS 8.
It might be mildly better, but you'll need to go through the accessibility settings again and make the same changes.
I'm going to guess that you have been using iOS 6 beforehand that is quite different compared to iOS 7 and 8.

Hah, Smart phone problems.

Can't you just turn the brightness down?

He turned it all the way down.

Unless I am misreading what he means by lowest setting.

that sounds terrible! sunglasses, and the aforementioned jailbreak may be an option but it's awful that you have to go to all that trouble just to enjoy your favorite device.

seems like all these new websites and layouts just make everything super big and bright and starkly transparent. i don't like it, it's too much simplicity for me with certain sites.
