Housing situation gets bad in December
Unfortunately, my credit is bad (due to medical bills). I also have a tendency to pay my utility bills and my rent a few days late even when I have the money for reasons I don't fully understand. It's like I have trouble just getting up and paying it on time. In fact, I owed the utility bill yesterday, but just didn't bothered to log in. When I tried to log in today, one day late, they said that my account was moved to another session for bill analysis, which doesn't sound good, so I decided to use my bank's bill pay to pay the amount with the late fee.
Basically, my parents are going to loan me $500 to pay the rent for next month. Extension of my short-term disability benefits was denied, and it could take up to 45 days to appeal the denial. (Their deadline for processing the appeal is November 30th, 2014, so it could take a long time to get money.) I will pay them back out of the SSDI money, the total of which I will receive is $1120 per month (first payment next month). But, unless the extension of the short-term disability benefits is approved quicker than anticipated or I can return to work, I will not be able to pay the December rent and will be way behind in cash for all my bills.
I seem to be in a difficult situation with regards to housing. I may not be approved for public housing or Section 8 because of the bad credit and my tendency to pay stuff a little late. My parents may not want to take me in. I may or may not be able to return to work. I have a lot of money in my 401(k), but I cannot freely take money from it while I'm still technically employed. Even so, I was told it could take up to 4 weeks after losing my job before the 401(k) opens up to me. I was thinking of relocating to a better state for trans people, but if I can't get public housing or Section 8, I might have a difficult time.
Also, I have trouble keeping my current house organized, though it is somewhat clean, so if they check it they may reject me.
Also, my Social Security info and my birth certificate are inconsistent with each other. I was able to get my name and sex changed with Social Security (under the new rules), so it is a female name and sex on Social Security, but my birth certificate still has my old male name and sex. Unfortunately, I can't change the sex on the birth certificate until I've had sex reassignment surgery (due to the rules of my birth state Hawaii), which is way out of my league (though if I get on Medicare, I may be able to get it, as I hear Medicare covers it on a case-by-case basis now). I had been waiting to change my name and sex together on my birth certificate, after I get sex reassignment surgery.
So discrepant information between different government departments may make the situation more difficult, as well
My uncle and grandma, who live in California, have shown they do not want me moving in with them. My parents live in a small-ish apartment, so I may have trouble there, too.
What will happen to me in regards to housing? What can I do?
