There is a stereotype of aspies being almost pedantically spick and span clean in their homes and organized with every single item in a very specific place. On the other hand I think many aspiers and others on the autism spectrum might be a bit like me and find keeping their house in order just so stressful that they could be the complete opposite.

How about the option of spending months living in complete filth and chaos and then go through months of being pedantically clean and totally OCD about it?

You're right- I should have included that option - but I guess there is no way to add it now

I tend to concentrate first on being hygienic. If a visitor expresses an intention to arrive tomorrow, the first thing I do after getting off the phone or reading the email is head to the bathroom and pick up the Bathroom spray and attack the bath, toilet and sink. I try to get rid of uneaten food as quickly as possible. However, there can be books and papers all over the floor. I try to pick up as I go along, but the messes just returns. I really have to blitz the place if I'm expecting anyone. Unfortunately from time to time, my landlady needs to come round, and asks if she can use her key to enter and I'm thinking to myself " 8O " I can of course tell her to wait until tomorrow, but as she doesn't need me to be in and she was going to come whilst I'm at work, she'd wonder what I was trying to hide. That said, there are far worse places, especially I'd say in some student digs!

I live with my parents, so most of the house cleaning is done by them. I have a hard time doing most daily living skills. I'm only just now learning to do my own laundry and fold my clothes. I'm terrible at cleaning, sometimes even bathing regularly. D: You should see my room. It's a complete disaster area, but it's also because I have a lot of stuff in a small bedroom. ._.

Well, I had to vote 'average' then as the more appropriate option is not available. ;)

I think I'm pretty tidy in some ways (have had at least one comment on it), and hate leaving food and/or dirty dishes lying around, but not exactly super clean. I mean, if I spill things I'll clean up, and other jobs that are done straight after things get dirty if that makes sense, but I'm not great at remembering things like dusting and sweeping. (Also, having pets around means their hair and sand/dirt etc. they bring in creates more stuff to dust and sweep up right after doing it. )

I'm not a very good housekeeper. I could do the "basics," though.

I always do the dishes every night. I put my clothes away. I clean the kitchen. I tidy up in general.

I'm not as good as my wife, though.

I try to keep the public areas of the house clean. Problem is, my so-called roommates take advantage of me, as I have yet to see any of them clean the kitchen or the upstairs bathroom, except for the Master Bath. The gentleman that rents the master bedroom is responsible for that. I've been trying to maintain it for him since he's on the road.)

Yeah there should be an option for going from one extreme to the other. I used to be OCD neat, clean, and organized.

These days I just do the minimum I have to do to be comfortable. The things I actually use on a daily basis, I do keep clean, and I am very meticulous about it. The dishes have to be spotless, everything on the bed gets stripped off and washed about once a week, etc. But if I'm not directly using something on a regular basis, I just ignore it, and it collects dust.

I'm not good with regular maintenance and touch ups. It's just mind numbingly boring to do the same tasks over and over and over again. And I hate having to touch stuff that is dirty.

I'm very good at keeping my place fairly clean because I really only live in my bedroom, and it's pretty clean in here besides needing vacuumed. I do have problems with letting my stove top go along with my floors as it's a daily chore just waking up and going about my daily routine as it is, ugh.

I generally keep things organized and clean until it reaches a certain threshold of messiness where I can no longer be arsed. Right now my apartment is a mess because I just moved and am having trouble finding somewhere to put all of my stuff. It's rather dirty as well, as it's difficult to clean with my s**t strewn everywhere.

Pretty good with it - my OCD seems to help a lot in this area. (See even OCD can have a good side :D )

I'm fairly awful at it, especially considering I have a diploma in cleaning.

I actually feel more comfortable if my living space is a bit more messy and chaotic. It gives my house a 'homey' feel.

I started a thread a little while back about my inefficiency at housekeeping. I'm ok with day to day things like washing dishes and making the bed. Everything else just basically goes to sh!t because I forget about it until it's too monumental a task to tackle.
Since the thread I've been using a system of attaching days of the week to tasks. For example, Mop Monday (vacuum and mop the floor), Toilet Tuesday (clean bath and toilet) Washing Wednesday, Things in Proper Place Thursday, Fridge Friday.
Saturday and Sunday are "WTF Would I Want to do Housework For it's the Weekend".

How about "My home is dirty but not very messy?"

The only room that is messy is my own room (its creative chaos, don't ask, don't complain - I can find everything so I am fine - I clean it only when I have visitors) but all other rooms are really organized. When I am bored I go to kitchen and organize a cupboard or the refrigerator - for fun. But I struggle with cleaning. I won't clear floor, sink or toilette till it sticks, stinks or grows something that looks funny. I don't wipe dust or use vacuum either.

Fortunately I have dishwasher and washing machine so at least my dishes and clothes are clean. Using them is fun since it is all about organizing and separating stuffs (I put dishes in dishwasher a specific way, and when using washing machine you must wash whites, blacks and colors separately).
