This site is 10 years old, moderators are leaving, new code is arriving so it is a natural time for a reassessment as to what this site should be about. Nothing defines a site more then it's name. I propose of the name of this site be changed from "Wrong Planet" to "Our Planet Also".

IMHO "Wrong Planet" sends to negative a message, one that says we will never be a part of the human race. Also I have never seen any evidence we were dropped here by aliens. All evidence points to we were born to human parents therefore we are human, a different type of human, but still human. The "Wrong Planet" name resonates because it often feels like we were dropped here by aliens. That is because of differences and non acceptance/understanding. The proposed new name says we are human and fully deserve to be treated as such.

Why? I don't really want to be able to utter the phrase 'I was on 'Our Planet Also, before it was Our Planet also.' which would happen if they did that and I bet it would get redundant  besides a newer version of the site could be nice but why go as far as changing the name and trying to make the site into something different than it is already.

I've always been offended by the name ''wrong planet'' because that makes me feel that Aspies aren't people, we're freaks or something.

If you was to consider all deformed people as ''aliens'', or imply that they're not really people, then I bet there would be a controversy about that, saying ''people with deformities are not freaks, they are people too!''

Yes well, people on the spectrum are people too.

I would probably quit if the site changed to Our Planet Also. Though I understand where the OP is coming from, to me it's bland and pedestrian and sounds a bit like a name of a group representing animal rights.

Wrong Planet very much gels in a metaphorical way with my experience of estrangement and discrimination in all the decades prior to recognising myself as on the spectrum. It encapsulates for me the isolation of that experience, the exclusion and not belonging - at least for me - very succinctly and poignantly.

Wrong Planet is the right planet for me, and that's how I want it to stay. It's Alex's contribution and I am grateful to and respect him very much for it.

Personally I love the name of this site. To me it feels like a good metaphor to express our experience in life, as B19 mentioned. I don't think it implies we are actually aliens or less than human, although I do like the idea of aspie/autism inclusion with the world rather than division.

I didn't find out I was born with aspergers until I was an adult so I didn't experience growing up with that label or the stigma that comes with it, but I didn't get the support, understanding, and acceptance that should come with the knowledge of a diagnosis either.

What about 'Auternative Universe'.

In a way, it is suggesting that autistics are the natives (aut-er-native), while also being worldplay with alternative.

The name was a turn-off for me initially for the reasons the OP stated, but I'm used to it now. I'm not totally averse to changing it though.

I will never feel like I belong on this planet, I think. I love the name because it fits exactly how I feel.
Also, I hate change. I don't think I'd handle it well if the name changed, lol!

I can't think of a more apt name. Maybe "Wrong Phase-time Continuum?"

I don't think you will have much luck since most autistic people don't like change.

Shame so many people voted against OP's idea. It might mean less creepy posts about how NTs are horrible and Autistic people are superior. You know, the type of thinking Elliot Rodger had.

I highly doubt the name will change how people feel or post...

Those posts are starting to get on my nerves. It's one thing venting about problems with other people; quite another thing altogether to construct a paranoid fantasy world where NTs are psychopaths and autistics are their blameless victims. As Elliot Rodger so unfortunately demonstrated, people with autism are not immune from waging war on their fellow human beings. (And yeah, I think he had HFA although he never identified himself personally as such.)

EDIT: Oh, and keep WrongPlanet! >_>

Me too. So if we think WrongPlanet is a good name for whatever reason, we are more likely to shoot and kill people in a public forum? Hmm ... Yeah, that's logical. Evoking such an incident in this thread is odd to me. I like the name because it captures an alienation that I feel - that doesn't mean hostility... they are not the same. It's more like visiting a strange environment and trying to assimilate, like a camouflaged observer taking notes for a test. I don't feel superior. I feel different. And more often than not I feel accepted. But not when people say things like this.
