My internet is messing up and I can't access the forums regularly so I've created this curious thread.

It's a quick poll. Which would you rate your worst (most irritating/painful) sensory issue? Feel free to describe why with a post if you wish.

I don't like loud things in general.

I used to cover my ears whenever a subway train was coming.

I always tell my wife to lower the TV.

Tie between auditory and olfactory.

Auditory and tactile. And they feed off each other, too, so if things are too loud, they feel too rough and sharp, and if things are too rough, sharp, sticky, wet, whatever, they sound too loud. My senses are kind of tangled up like that--not like synesthesia, though, unless intensity transferring from one sense to the other counts as synesthesia.

I can't stand listening to people talk or lots of background noise, and lights are bad for me.

Proprioception (body awareness) has always been hyposensitive for me...why I arm flapped as a child -when happy too. My sensory processing is diagnosed Severe-Moderate. I have two forms of dyspraxia.

First is auditory, then olfactory (smell) and third visual (bright lights) (hypersensitive).

the older I get the less I can tolerate the judder in motion picture film projection. when I was young my hearing was damaged by exposure to loud gunfire, and [aside from tinnitus] is hypersensitive to certain sounds with mid-high-frequency content. like vacuum cleaners, power tools and chainsaws.

I'm not sure what the things in your poll mean but I hate repetitive noises. Like most bird songs or beeping etc.

Visual. Florescent lights are a killer (not literary). I can lose my ability to focus my vision if I spend to much time shopping at a grocery store. Everything goes completely blurry, I can't even see my hand in front of me, and confusion sets in.

My sensory issues are pretty minor, but I'd say it's a toss up between tactile hypersensitivity and vestibular/proprioceptive hyposensitivity. The tactile issues are probably more irritating, but more easily avoided. The vestibular/proprioceptive are pretty constant but don't really bother me because I can easily manage them with stimming. However, the stims I do can sometimes be conspicuous and uncomfortable in social situations.

I'm not sure what any of those mean but... I think touch is my worst one. Then again, I don't really have any horrible sensory issues like most people. D: I just have an aversion to loud sounds. I know I hate unexpected touch though. I will scream at a person who touches me without warning, even just by accident. So, that's why I feel that touch is the worst for me. I also think my sight can be challenging as well because I hate bright lights, especially during the night with all the cars and stuff. I have to wear sun glasses because otherwise, I'm painfully squinting my eyes. No, I don't like directly at the sun or anything. I'm not even look at it, and it still seems to cause me a lot of pain.

Actually, if it counts... I have a huge issue with emotional sensitivity. It's hard for me because my emotions often get the best of me, either causing overloading anger or anxiety for me. ><

When I first read the topic subject, I only clicked on "Auditory Hypersensitivity" but I would say that as I get older, I also become more aware of my body. On a previous post, I wrote about how I am always aware of my body and other people/things in relation to it. Thanks for telling me the specific word for it.

So mine would be:

1) Auditory
2) Proprioception/ clothes

Auditory is the worst for me, loud/chaotic/sudden noise can bother me a lot. When I'm on the phone, if I hear lots of people talking or making noises even in the background on their end, I get really irritated and want to hang to up. There have been multiple times I said to my friend, "Tell them to shut up!" about his screaming little siblings.

Touch and vision are the next worst. They can still be equally as bad as auditory, just not as often.

I've also noticed I'm actually hyposensitive to smells. People always seem to notice smells that I don't. This may also be why I like having very strong, spicy and salty flavors in my food.
