I'm ALWAYS the last one finished if I'm eating a meal with others, unless I hardly eat anything. My food is usually cold by the time I'm halfway finished.

My parents would always get mad at me for taking so long to eat. I just thought of this because my grandma does the same thing. I don't really know why I take so long, it varies I suppose. When I was with my parents it was because I would quote tons of cartoon and movie lines or sometimes make up funny dialogues, because my little brothers thought it was funny. My parents really hated that too for some reason, and my step mom always told me that it's not appropriate to do that at the dinner table.

Now it's because I'm looking things up on my phone all the time, and it is hard for me to pull away and just finish my meal first. I guess I just love learning more than eating. (Or it's because I'm on here. As I write this, there is a cold half-eaten bowl of soup sitting next to me  )

me not so much, because by the time i have food in front of me, i'm hungry enough to eat. by that i mean, usually i forget to eat so when i do get food i dont do other things and distract myself. but if i eat in front of my laptop then yeah i get too into whatever i'm doing and have to re-heat my food. (what a pain in the butt)

my brother has always got in trouble for eating so slow though. i think he is like you, is too busy entertaining us and forgets to put the food in his mouth. :jester: i dont think it's such a bad thing, for some reason my parents REALLY hate it too! i don't understand it. i'm thinking it's the type of humor maybe that irks them so much. cus when they talk or make jokes, it is suddenly 'appropriate'. but dinner time is when my siblings and i socialize the most, so you'd think our parents would appreciate that and like it but whatever...

My older son is. He has sensory issues with food and has not had a very good relationship with it pretty much since he started eating solids. He eats so slowly (we think because of the sensory problems- he gets a specific form of OT called "food therapy") that he gets bored of eating and doesn't eat enough. He needs to eat more frequently than normal in order to take in enough food.

Extremely, and in order to stop me from doing so, I always clear the table.

No, If I am the last one eating it is only because I've gone back for seconds, thirds,.......You don't want to go to an Indian restaurant all-you-can -eat buffet with me, you'll be there for hours.

It depends on the food. If it's something with lots of small pieces (soup, chicken tikka masala etc), I am usually the first to finish.
Everything else I'm last. It has lead to some jokes like me needing extended lunch breaks, and questions about my food getting cold, which sometimes it does, so I sometimes have to heat it a little in the microwave oven. +1 to modern technology! No more too cold meals like in the past.

i eat too fast. my husband (we're both quiet) and i are finished with dinner in about ten minutes. takes way longer to make it. i think eating quickly started for me when i was on call. if i didn't eat fast, i might not get to eat at all.

I've always been a very fast eater unless I don't like the food.

No, it's the opposite for me. I eat very fast and finish before everyone else, but only if they are foods that I like and my sensory issues don't become heightened by them.

Yes I'm a slow eater too, I think it's because I'm scared to choke on a piece of food, so I chew my food a billion times. (Plus I play on my phone when I eat.)

Yes, I am a very slow eater. Part of it is because my natural chew pace is very slow, part of it is because I almost always read while eating, part of it is because I eat each course separately, and part of it is because it takes me a while to prep everything, and I am slow at doing that. I have health issues that make it hard for me to get around. I also tend to eat a lot at each meal, because I almost always go too long between meals, due to being busy with other things, so I am very hungry by the time I eat. Since I live alone, and can no longer work, due to my health issues, there is usually no one to mind but me.

Eating slowly is good for you. You end up eating less and can also digest food better.

I'm a very fast eater. I always finish eating before everyone else. When I eat slowly, food doesn't taste as delicious as when I do fast. I swallow barely-chewed food. That's how food tastes best. I'm thinking to change my bad eating habit (eating all the time rather than eating fixed meals and eating fast).

Oh ya I always eat slowly. If the food is good I'm savoring it. If the food is bad it takes even longer to gag it down. My mom used to always nag me and told me to hurry. One day I finally asked her why hurry, what's waiting for me after supper? She thought about it and giggled "I have no idea".

I've only found old people with full dentures eating as slowly as I do.
